3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Its a pamphlet people! By takeeta Gee, $7.00 for a tiny pamphlet with 25 recipes, most of which I wouldn't make. Calling it a book is quite a stretch!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. While I'm sure that the sauces will be wonderful, at only 28 pages By Stacey Keon Did this book even get proofread before it went to press? Page 4, "Mic everything together".. , page 18: I. 1/4 C each preserves..(any particular kind?) or maybe it's that the entry is duplicated as II. is 1/4 C apricot preserves....?While I'm sure that the sauces will be wonderful, at only 28 pages, it appears that you've paid about $.25 a page. Really? I expected this to be a larger book with more heft than what it is. I am very disappointed.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. no additives just great taste By Amazon Customer I love to cook and the fresher the better. I don't like all the additives and preservatives that are being added to my food. So I am always on the lookout for recipes so I can make my own. I love the recipes in this cookbook because I can make them fresh. Thank you and enjoy your day.

Only the reunion doesn't go as X expected. It's not easy adapting to a new life in New Orleans, with a mother who was possessed by the devil until recently and a stepfather she didn't know existed. Especially when a mysterious stranger, her stepfather's charming and handsome protege Jean-Paul, drives a wedge between Emme and Francis. Is the enigmatic outsider trying to replace her man? Or does he have a more sinister plan-- one she couldn't have imagined? Haunted by a mysterious ghost and threatened by a demon in her mama's house, X gets ready to rumble. She dons God's armor to face the evil force that has hunted her all her life, but first she must cast aside the little girl act and draw strength from all the celestial and worldly friends who have guided her this far. With a whap I slammed my journal shut. “They inspire bad poetry.” “Among other things,” he said with a wry smile. He kept his eyes fixed on the road as we zoomed down Interstate 10. We were on our way to New Orleans to see my mama. Finally. It had been three long years. Nerves stirred my insides like the agitator inside a washing machine. “Don’t get me started on John 10:10,” I ranted. “It says, ‘The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.’ And his triflin’ minions never let up. They possess the people you love, attach themselves to you, and ruin your relationships.” “I won’t get you started on that.” “Did I mention they inspire bad poetry?” “As a matter of fact you did. What’s wrong with your poem, baby?” “Besides everything, it’s whiny. Mama’s going to hate it. And could you please tell me why I took on Langston Hughes?” “It’s not like you challenged him to a rap battle, Emme. You flipped his poem, which is a fierce way to express how hard your journey has been. I dug it. Your madre will, too.” “But ‘Mother to Son’ is perfect.” “I’m gonna take a wild guess and say Langston Hughes probably revised his work. Give yourself time. You just wrote that half a mile back.” “It’s hopeless.” What I meant was I was hopeless. “Not much in this world is hopeless, and certainly not you.” Francis said. “This trip alone should show you that much.” It should have. I was going to be with my mama! In no time I’d have my arms around her, snottin’ and crying my fool head off, but painful memories of her collided with my hope. It was hard to focus on anything beyond how unpredictable life could be. I yanked the visor down for an umpteenth look in the mirror and groaned at my reflection. My fitful sleep the night before had left my dark skin dull. Combined with my stark white hair, drooping in ropy lengths down my back, a sistah looked downright ghastly. Francis’s voice penetrated my self-loathing, and I snapped the visor back up. “Talk to me, X. And don’t tell me you’re upset about your poem.” “I’m fine,” I mumbled, crossing my arms over my chest. “Oh, I know you’re fine, but what’s the matter?” A smile tugged at the corners of my mouth. “Dude! That was, like, the lamest line ever.” But the furious blush rising in my cheeks contradicted my words. His laughter fell on my ears like music. “Yeah, but it coaxed you out of your blues. Don’t sleep on a brotha’s skills in the art of seduction.” “That was you seducing me?” “That was me reminding you that there’s more to your beauty than what you see in the mirror. I’ll do the seducing on our wedding night.” “You’re the one who’s fine, Francis. And I’m not just talking about your looks.” Red stole up Francis’s neck, and he flashed that rare, single dimple at me. I love to see him flushed; it actually makes him prettier. His skin is the color of cocoa, with a florid hue beneath that hot chocolate, courtesy of his Latino dad. He blushes and his cheeks bloom roses. Flecks of gold illuminate his liquid light brown eyes. One sultry look from him kills me. “I wouldn’t mind taking in more of the view over there,” Francis said, his eyes sweeping over me before he turned back to watch the road. “Unfortunately, I’m driving. I’ll have to settle for looking at this beautiful countryside.” Once again, I turned my gaze to the window to see the strange new world that was Louisiana. Exotic vegetation—some of it still lush in December—flourished beside bridge-covered swamps. Centuries-old cypress trees wrapped in Spanish moss stood like sentries next to massive oaks, their bark blackened with age. Now and then we’d pass plantation houses towering in the distance. It was like we were driving right into the setting of an Anne Rice novel. How soon, I wondered, would the creatures of the night show up? Which made me think of demons, which prompted the unsettling memories of the worst times with Mama, and again I teetered on the edge of an abyss of worry. “Emme, baby?” Francis cooed, his voice as sweet as honey. “I’m all right, Francesco.” “Yes, you are. If only you could believe it when you say it. Because it really is all good, baby. The worst is over. You made it though all your trials, tribulations, tests, and even temptations, stronger than you were before.” I nodded and raked my fingers through my blanched tresses, now aware of my stupid white hair. “Dang it.” “What?” “How am I supposed to explain the Storm look to my mama?” “Tell her what I always say: you’re a superhero now.” “She ain’t into Marvel comics.” “It doesn’t matter, because you aren’t Storm. You’re the Exorsistah! I’ll bet she’ll understand that! Anyway, she won’t care what color your hair is. She’ll just be glad to hug your neck.” I stared out of the window again, saying nothing. “You don’t have to torture yourself, X. For the hundredth time, everything is going to be great.” And for the hundredth time, I wished I could be sure. A dense white fog had rolled in from the Gulf, bringing with it a rare flurry of snowflakes. I felt as scattered as the fragile bits of white falling from it. “How far are we from New Orleans?” “Less than thirty miles.” He reached over and gave my hand a quick squeeze. I’d have paid good money for that gesture to give me just the tiniest measure of deep-down-in-my-soul certainty. But I got nothin’. “Trust God on this,” Francis said, discerning my thoughts in that maddening way he does. “He’s not going to disappoint you.” Francis is what you call a “sensitive.” He can feel what’s happening in the spirit realm. You know that phrase, “touch and agree” in prayer? We did that once and meshed souls irrevocably. There are times when my gift becomes his, and his mine: I can feel what he feels, and he can see what I see like we’re a couple of empaths, only we’re fine-tuned to each other. On several occasions the simple sensation of his hand in mine was enough to give me all the reassurance I needed. “I don’t have to be an empath to get what’s bothering you,” Francis said. “Dude! You pulled that word right out of my brain!” “It’s so much nicer talking to you.” Resistance was futile. Francis was capable of traipsing through my mind like we were part of the Borg Collective sometimes. I decided to get it over with and talk to him. “I’m afraid to see her.” He kept his eyes steady on the road. “That’s exactly how I felt before I met Father Miguel.” Francis chuckled and shook his head. “I went through a thang, baby. I had all these ideas about what he’d be like. My personal favorite was gruff, good-looking priest, right out of a Hollywood movie. Like Antonio Banderas in a Roman collar! But when I knocked on the door some old dude answered who looked like he could be my grandfather.” He paused, suddenly pensive. “But I saw my own face in his. It amazed me. I was so shocked I blurted out, ‘My mama said you my daddy.’” Now his raucous laughter filled the car. “All the color drained from his face. I’m surprised he didn’t throw holy water on me.” “Father Miguel was an exorcist. He’d seen worse than you.” “Oh, I surprised him, baby. Trust.” “What did he say?” “I don’t know. I didn’t speak Spanish yet, but I guessed that he didn’t believe me, which he later confirmed. Repeatedly.” “What did you do?” “Later, I took the DNA test he insisted on, but I was mad about it, and I stayed mad for the next three years: at my mother for dying, at God for taking her, and now that I think of it, I was angry at myself for needing my father, but it was just grief, Emme.” His expression turned somber. “So much of grief is anger, or fear, but they feel a lot worse than being sad does. Don’t waste the moments you’ll have with your mother acting a fool. Time goes by too fast. You’ll look up, and she’ll be gone again.” Father Miguel had died a little over a week before. I leaned over and kissed Francis’s cheek. “I’ll try my best. Thank you for driving me. You should be back in Inkster dealing with your loss instead of running me a thousand miles down the road.” “I’d rather be here than there, crying all over my bass guitar.” “Have I told you lately that you’re wonderful?” “Say it another couple of thousand times, and I might start to believe you.” “At least you didn’t leave your dad to languish in a mental hospital.” “You were a kid, Emme. Your mother will understand the choices you had to make.” “She would have done things differently.” “How do you know that?” “Because I have my own paternity surprise.” I took a deep breath and let it out. “Miss Jane told me I was a rape baby. I never knew before then.” Miss Jane was the surprising mystic who sent Francis and I on this journey. She was also the original Exorsistah who delivered my mother from demons. Miss Jane was full of unsettling surprises, and although she had gone to be with the Lord right after Francis’s dad, I was sure somehow she’d have a few more for me. Francis’s mouth opened, then closed again, not a word coming out. An endless minute passed before he finally spoke. “Your madre was raped? I’m sorry to hear it. That’s heavy, X.” “Heavy ain’t the word for it.” Anxiety clutched me again, turning quickly into an impending sense of doom. The word “heavy” seemed to hang in the air like the Acme anvil in Road Runner cartoons, about to drop on my head. I could feel it closing in on me until it crushed my skull; an instant migraine seemed to split my head in two. Perspiration moistened my skin, and my breath came in ragged gasps. The oppressive heat inside the car made me fumble for the power window button, but I couldn’t find it to save my life. Francis pushed it from the driver’s side, and a blast of cool, moist air hit me in the face. But wheezing burned my lungs, and a sharp pain seized my chest. Confusion scrambled my thoughts. I couldn’t focus enough to form the words “Help me.” I’d fought a lot of demons in my day, big, bad, nasty demons, but I’d never encountered anything like the terrifying heaviness squeezing the life out of me. Tears bit at my eyes. Whatever was happening was going kill me, and I had no idea why. The last thing I remember was grabbing Francis’s shirt. Then everything went black. © 2011 Claudia Mair Burney

She created a supernatural series about a young and strong willed African American protagonist. A rare book indeed, but I am sad to say The Exorsistah: X Restored was a complete waste of time. It truly hurts me and my wallet to say so. The story began okay, Burney wasted no time in starting where the second book left off. But Burney in 170 odd pages rushed through the storyline, plot development, and character development. Burney had an opportunity to develop a relationship between Emme and Jean-Paul that could have rocked the foundations of Emme's faith but instead Emme says a few words of "No, don't be like that" to Jean-Paul. Then all is well for everyone and Jean-Paul makes the right decision in less than a sentence. Where's the dilemma? The inner conflict? The reunion between Emme and her once possessed mother is just boring! Sure, Emme is upset that her mother has moved on in her life but any form of explanation to why a mother doesn't find her child is simply excused because Emme's mother says the "saint told me not to find you." Great Ace in the hole Mrs. Burney definitely saved some trees by using simplistic and predictable plot tie-ins so you wouldn't actually give reasoning behind you're characters actions. I feel Emme and Francis faced more challenges and demonstrated more love between one another in the first two books, I mean really Francis never leaves her side in the previous books but is quick to leave because of a woman's insecurities. He's a terrible sensitive reader. This summary might sound a bit cryptic because I did not want to ruin the book for others. I suggest readers to borrow the book from the library and save your money. You will just be disappointed in the ending. Which by the way consist of one page of "Yay, we lived. Everyone happy. Got married the next day. The end." Sorry Spoiler Alert! It's really disappointing and sadly the book was postponed for a year and came out so bland.

By Jennifer Coissiere "The Tough Critic" Claudia Mair Burney brings back Emme Vaughn in The Exorsistah: X Restored, the third book in the series. As before, Emme is searching for her mother, Abigail, and this time she finds her. However, Emme finds her and so much more down in New Orleans. As soon as she crosses into The Crescent City, some strange things begin occurring, like speaking in a language she otherwise does not understand unless Francis, her fiancé, translated it for her.Emme did not expect to find her mother living a life of wedded bliss, or that she would be assisting a private investigator. Their reunion is bittersweet. Francis being the gentleman, that he is, understands the need for Emme and Abigail to reconnect. Meanwhile, there is Jean-Paul, an apprentice of Emme's stepfather, who is putting a wedge of some kind between Francis and Emme. There is a great connection between the two that neither Emme or Francis can understand or explain. What is that connection? What will it mean to Emme and Francis's relationship? This paranormal series is truly entertaining. Ms. Burney provides a story that is more than simply demon fighting. Every detail interlocks like a jigsaw puzzle. As I read along, I tried my best to pay attention to any clue that would help me to figure out what was going on or would happen, but due to Burney's skills in weaving a suspense mystery I was unsuccessful in finding out before I read it. I recommend The Exorsistah series to readers of paranormal fiction and mystery. The publisher provided a copy of the book for review purposes.Jennifer CoissiereAPOOO BookClub

Between Heaven & Hell By Eric Wilson Claudia Mair Burney never fails to give us the raw and rich emotions of faith, hope, and love. In this, the third book following the Exorsistah--yes, a sistah who casts out demons--Burney gives us a satisfying conclusion to X's story. In "X Restored," we find X traveling to New Orleans with her fiance, Francis, in search of X's mother. Along the way, a ghostly figure begins appearing to X, and X meets another fine brotha who stirs conflicting feelings within her. This brotha, Jean-Paul, introduces X to a carnal side of New Orleans, but even as he flirts with the darkness, he helps X see that she has allowed that same darkness to bind her up in old memories and fears. Just as Augustine needed Monica as his prayer warrior, X wonders if she is to be that same warrior for Jean-Paul. She also struggles to accept her mother's new husband. While she tries to settle these matters in her own heart and mind, Francis finds himself shoved to the side and questions his own future with his fiancee. There is a real feel of Anne Rice here, with the New Orleans settings, and Burney's Catholicism mixed with some Charismatic leanings give it an intriguing vibe. As X and Francis face off with ghostly and demonic creatures, they also face their own personal issues that lead them to a final conflict with a big-time NOLA sorcerer. This confrontation peels back the final secrets about X's past, and she ends up making a choice between heaven, hell, and the earth on which her dear fiance treads.Once again, Burney gives us likable but flawed characters, along with spiritual questions that focus on Jesus as the Redeemer even as they wrestle with deep issues. Although the final pages felt a bit rushed, I found this to be a fast, entertaining, and thought-provoking tale, and a stirring conclusion to the story of the Exorsistah.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. The Eager Beaver was cursed. Trent Kimball had always been a skeptic, but right now, trying to get this damned old tractor to run, he was tempted to rethink his position. His dad had moved the whole family off the ranch when Trent was sixteen, swearing by the words of Trent's great-granddad that anyone who tried to make something of the place was doomed to failure.Three years later Trent's older brother had tried to give it a go but after seven years, he'd gone belly up. When Colby had blamed it on the curse, Trent had given him a load of crap about superstition and other nonsense. In truth, if his bottom-feeding, soul-sucking ex-wife hadn't damn near cleaned him out, Trent wouldn't be here trying to whip the ranch into shape. But cursed? Nah, when it came right down to it, he wasn't about to jinx his future when he'd barely gotten started. Eight months was nothing when it came to building a new life.Using a clean rag to wipe the sweat off his forehead, he squinted at the gap in the east corral where a pair of rails had come loose and fallen during the night. He'd get to that later today. The job he was on right now was far more urgent. He stared at the tractor engine. If he didn't get it running soon, he was gonna be in a world of hurt. Alfalfa wasn't cheap. He needed to be ready to plant come spring. And after building the stable his bank account was dwindling fast. He jerked the wrench. And caught the edge of his thumb. He let loose a string of cussing everyone in Blackfoot Falls, sixteen miles away, must've heard. Mutt didn't even raise his head. The mangy hound stayed put, a huge lump of black fur curled up under the shade of a cottonwood. Damn lazy dog.Violet, his unwelcome neighbor, didn't miss her chance to mock him and she sure as hell didn't hold back. The unseasonably warm fall breeze carried the sound of her cackling straight to him. He turned to the wiry old woman sitting on the porch of her double-wide parked near the faded barn. As usual she was smoking an oversize pipe and having a fine time in her dilapidated oak rocker. One of these days she'd end up on her butt. Twice he'd offered to fix the chair for her. Twice. But as she so bluntly put it…his carpentry skills sucked. Much as he hated to admit it, she had a point.Though he was getting better. He'd done a meticulous job of finishing the inside of the stable himself, making sure it was hazard-free, before he'd brought Solomon and Jax, a pair of quarter horses he'd purchased a couple of years back.Still, the laughter coming off the porch was frying his nerves to a crisp. Here he'd cleaned her gutters, repaired the stairs by her front door and built her a handrail. But had she thanked him?Okay, so he'd done those things when Violet was off to town so she wouldn't give him any lip. And yes, the woman was a burr in his boot, but he didn't want her hurt. Just quiet. And minding her own business."I know you have an air conditioner and a TV inside, Violet Merriweather," he said, taking off his hat then resettling it on his head. "Why the hell are you sitting out here in the heat watching me?""You're funnier than any of them reality shows." She might've grinned, hard to tell with the pipe hiding half her craggy features. "Anyhow, I'm all caught up on Duck Dynasty!''Trent sighed. If he had any sense he would've run her off the property when he'd first returned to Montana. The old woman had a knack for making him feel like a complete loser, and that was the last thing he needed right now. But she had no kids, no family since her brother had passed away some years back, and she'd watched him and Colby grow up. Over the years, Violet had become a fixture at the ranch. But they'd both been nicer then.Somewhere in her mid-eighties, she was still spry and wiry, and had plenty of opinions she was more than willing to share. For all he knew, being cantankerous was the secret to staying young.A stiff crosswind out of the west brought the aroma of baked beans and cornbread. Had to be coming from Violet's stove. Their closest neighbor lived three miles away. Another whiff and Trent's stomach growled loud enough for Mutt to lift his head. Or maybe it was the smell that roused the dog's attention. His eyes looked mighty hopeful."You think that's coming from our kitchen?" Trent snorted. "Dream on."Mutt let out a huff."You know as well as I do she won't share." Which was a shame. Anything beyond frying eggs and bacon tested his kitchen skills. He'd offered to pay Violet to cook for him, but she'd turned him down flat. "Don't look at me like that," he told Mutt who'd let out a whine. "You eat better than I do."The dog had shown up the day Trent arrived. Halfway down the gravel driveway, he'd noticed Mutt trotting behind the U-Haul he had towed all the way from Texas. Most of the stuff he cared about probably could've fit in the back of his truck. But he'd jam-packed the small rental with a few chairs, an end table, his favorite couch, the king-size bed he and Dana had shared and a few other things he didn't particularly want, but damned if he'd let her have them. He'd been too angry to see anything but red.Two days after the race that'd had him and everyone else in the racing world questioning his ability as a horse trainer, she'd walked into their bedroom with an empty suitcase and handed it to him. Told him she wanted a divorce. Just like that. How had he not seen that side of her before? They'd married too young, still in the giddy stage of love and lust when they'd eloped without a word to anyone. And in the three years they were together, he'd seen her angry, hurt, pouty, even spiteful at times, but to kick a man when he was already down?Clearly he'd underestimated Dana's need to have a wealthy, successful husband. She'd given up on him before the dust had even settled. Her lack of confidence in his ability to train more winning horses, making the big bucks she'd never had trouble spending, had taken a chunk of his heart. That last race, that one missed call, couldn't have been the only straw. But he'd had no idea it would be the last.As for their divorce settlement, he figured giving her the big house and fancy sports car he'd paid for with his bonus money was more than enough. Hell, he'd never wanted the big colonial anyway. Or the car for that matter.Mutt turned toward the driveway. The dog was smart, probably half border collie, and at least five years old. Poor guy was on the homely side, with one brown eye and the other a spooky gold. It had taken two baths before Trent was able to tell Mutt's chest was gray. When he let out a long, low growl, Trent shaded his eyes and peered toward the road. He didn't get many visitors, and certainly none driving black luxury sedans."It's okay, boy." Trent bent to stroke the dog's side, but kept his gaze on the car as it turned down the long driveway. He glanced at Violet. "You expecting anyone?""What do you think?" she muttered, her frown aimed at the slowly approaching vehicle.Right, silly question. "Sit," he told Mutt, and the dog promptly obeyed. "Stay." As the car neared the barn, Trent tugged down the rim of his hat to block the afternoon sun and started walking. The tinted windows wouldn't let him see the driver but he noticed the Colorado plates. Whoever it was had to be lost. Not many people came out this far. After idling for a bit, the engine was cut. Trent stood near the hood on the passenger side, dusting off the front of his jeans while he waited for the driver's door to open.A few seconds later a woman stepped out. The breeze whipped long strands of honey-blond hair across her face, preventing Trent from getting a good look at her. With a delicate hand she swept the hair out of her eyes. She blinked at him, then smiled. "Hello.""Afternoon," he said, touching the brim of his hat. She was pretty. Real pretty. High cheekbones. Full mouth. "Can I help you?""I hope so." She glanced at the small brick house. "I think this is the Eager Beaver ranch? The sign on the post is really faded.""Yeah, um…" Trying not to grimace, he rubbed the back of his neck. Only the word Beaver was left on the wooden sign. He'd kinda thought it was funny. Until now. "I've been meaning to get around to that.""Oh?" Her brows rose. She blinked again, looking confused as she scanned the rundown barn, sheds and chicken coop. When she lifted a hand and smiled, he saw Violet leaning forward. "I'm sorry," the woman said. "Please excuse my bad manners. I'm Shelby." She came around the hood, one hand extended, the other busy trying to keep from being blinded by the breeze tangling her hair. "Shelby Foster.""Trent—" His fingers grazed hers. He yanked his hand back just in time. Grease and dirt streaked his palm. "Sorry, I've been working on the tractor."She smelled good, sweet. Not perfumy, but more like the first clean whiff of spring. And her eyes, they were green. Like fresh-cut hay. When she narrowed them he realized he was staring like a jackass."Okay," she said. "I'm not sure I understand. If this is the Eager Beaver, you must be—" Her worried gaze darted to the equipment shed, then back to the house. "So, are you the—caretaker?""If I were, I'd be doing a mighty sorry job of it," he said with a laugh."Whew." Shelby grinned. "That's what I was thinking.""Wait a minute—" His indignation only lasted a second. But then he got so distracted by her long slender legs, he forgot what he was about to say. "Who are you again?""Shelby Foster.""No. I mean why are you here?""Well…" With a tentative smile she glanced at the porch that needed repairing. "I'm the new owner."He pushed up the brim of his hat as if that would improve his hearing. "Come again?""Okay, not new. Actually it's been a year. But this is the first time I've come to see the place for myself."Trent studied her face, the overly bright smile, the uncertainty in her eyes as her gaze swept toward the barn. It didn't seem as if she was joking and somehow he didn't think she was crazy."Who put you up to this?" he asked, closely watching her reaction. "Was it Colby?"Her puzzled frown seemed genuine. "Put me up to what?""I know you're not the owner because I am."Shelby raised her eyebrows. "You can't be.""Yes, ma'am, I can." He removed his Stetson and shoved a hand through his hair, damp from sweat and starting to curl at his nape. He jammed the hat back on. "This ranch has been in my family for four generations.""I don't understand," she said, a flicker of panic in her eyes. "How is that possible?"Trent sure hoped she wasn't a victim of one of those auction scams. Buy property sight-unseen for cheap, then find out the paperwork is fake. The car, the clothes screamed success. She didn't look like someone who'd be that foolish. "There are a whole bunch of ranches around Blackfoot Falls. Maybe you got confused?""Any of them named the Eager Beaver?"At her insulting tone of voice, any sympathy he'd felt for her dimmed. He liked the name, dammit. "Let's back up here. What makes you think you own the place?""I have the deed.""The what?""The deed…it's a legal document—""I know what a deed is," he said, cutting her off. Hell, did she think he was some hayseed? Which brought to mind… "You don't look like a rancher or an outdoor kind of gal." He'd started his inspection with her fine leather boots, probably perfect for a night in the city but not out here. Her designer jeans could go either way, he supposed. But her clingy blue top? And those full pink lips.He finally met her eyes. An icy chill darkened them and dared him to say another word. Or take another look.Trent just smiled. She was safe from him. He was done with women, but looking was an entirely different matter. From his kitchen window, he loved watching the sun dip behind the Rockies. Didn't mean he planned on climbing them.Lifting her chin, she said, "Now that we've established I'm the owner, who are you?""We what?" And here he'd worried she might be the victim of a con. Jesus. She really did think he was a country bumpkin. "You have a deed? I'd like to see it."Her confidence faltered. Or maybe swiping her tongue across her lips was supposed to distract him. It almost worked. "I don't have it with me," she said, taking a deep breath that made her chest rise. "It's with my things, which will be arriving next week.""Your things?" He stared at her, and she nodded. "No. No way. You call whoever's hauling your stuff and—" From his peripheral vision, he noticed Violet edging closer. He didn't need her sticking her nose in this. "Let's go in the house," he told Shelby in a more reasonable tone. "We can get something cold to drink. Figure this thing out."She moistened her lips again, her expression cautious as she inspected his stained brown T-shirt, worn jeans and dusty boots."I'm not gonna bite," he said when she didn't move."Fine." With a toss of her hair, she picked her way through the gravel to the porch steps, having some trouble with those skinny, impractical boot heels. He followed behind, torn between checking out her shapely rear end and keeping an eye on Violet. It would be just like her to stir up trouble, for sheer sport if nothing else. When he saw the old busybody closing the distance between them, he whistled for Mutt to run interference. At best, Trent had a fifty-fifty shot the dog would listen.Shelby stopped at the screen door and turned to him."Go on inside. It's not locked."She glanced past him, then entered the house. He caught the screen and smiled when he saw that Mutt was doing his job. Violet stood near the barn, spewing curses and trying to evade the dog's long eager tongue. She liked the mooch well enough, even slipped him treats, but she couldn't stand him licking her."Come on, boy." Trent waited for the dog to bound up the steps and charge inside.Yanking off his hat, he walked into the living room. Looking terrified, Shelby stood frozen, against the far wall where Mutt had cornered her. Jesus, he hadn't considered."Come," Trent commanded, but Mutt ignored him.Shelby figured if the dog was going to bite her, he'd have already done so. She tucked her purse under her arm, and crouched to pet the big shaggy fur ball that had to be over sixty pounds. She loved dogs but couldn't for the life of her identify his breed.

By Mama Patrice i enjoyed the story but i was disappointed that there was only a couple sightings of rachel and none of the rest of the mcallisters. i thought the dynamic between trent and violet was great. it reminded me of how my daughter and my father act around each other. they fight like cats and dogs but the love is obvious. i also loved how violet handled the ownership of the ranch and how both trent and shelby were willing to give up ownership for each other. i thought it was hysterical that trent made shelby promise not to tell anyone that the milk cow has a name. the lack of mcallisters is my only issue. great book otherwise.

The story line is simple: Shelby moves to a ranch that she believes she owns, only to find cowboy Trent living on the property. Neither can prove who owns the ranch right off the bat, so the two clash over how to share the ranch. Its a good book, couldn't put it down.

Salads are a great and flexible tool in the hands of any novice cook. I like that this book explores that flexibility by sharing 50 recipes I have not seen anywhere, this makes me really happy because I will not longer be making the same salads over and over again. The fifty salad dressings are a great complement; after all, what is a salad with salad dressing? The simplicity of the directions for using the ingredients of each recipe is to die for. Also it is great that the writer includes the health benefits and uses of salads. I love it.

Lots of lettuce-less options are included here, and some pasta salads, so there’s quite a bit of variety. This book also describes several coleslaw variations, and salads that combine both fruits and vegetables. The black bean and corn salad with garlic and fresh lime juice was really great, and my family scarfed down the avocado and tuna tapas. The strawberry vinaigrette dressing was a nice summery change from the usual, and the Bob’s blue cheese dressing is going to be served with chicken wings at our July 4th bbq.

By Nilah M My husband is a big fan of salads, and I've always found them to be really flexible with all kinds of ingredients. This book just amped up the awesomeness that salads are! It was new for me to know the different ways that cucumber lends itself to salads. I loved making Cucumber Sunomono and Adrienn's Salad. I certainly have exhaustive knowledge of dressings now. My current favourite is the Strawberry Vinaigrette and Batman's Cesar Dressing. I just wish the recipes were hyperlinked for ease of navigation.
