New York City self-help editor Olivia Marks faces her toughest assignment yet: parenthood. When her sister dies in a car accident, the career-oriented Olivia suddenly becomes the guardian to her four-week-old niece, Annabelle. She also becomes a challenge for Annabelle’s uncle, Brad Rushford, an old flame whose gorgeous green eyes bring Olivia’s fevered memories rushing back.

As the two circle each other in their small hometown of Mirror Lake, Olivia finds that Brad is as sexy and charming as ever—and now he’s the darling of the town as he expands his successful lakefront restaurant. Is his flirting designed to get serious, or to lower Olivia’s defenses to give up guardianship? When she finds out about the turreted, brick Victorian house Brad tours with a realtor and an attractive, no-strings-attached reporter—the same place where he and Olivia shared an unforgettable night years ago—Olivia wonders if he’s looking for a future with her, or planning to start a new life with someone else.

In the first heartwarming Mirror Lake story, steamy trysts and surprising twists lead two people to a future neither one expected.

Filled with angst and romance, this novel follows the lives of Olivia Marks, a driven New York City editor and Brad Rushford, a self-made restaurateur. High school sweethearts, they are thrust back together ten years later when Olivia is granted guardianship to her niece Annabelle. And this is when the twists begin.Olivia has no idea how to raise a baby. From the very first line of the story, Olivia’s anxiety is palpable. She is a successful business woman, but knowing how to make a one-month old happy is not something she can simply check off on one of her to do lists. She is back in her hometown, away from her job and friends in New York. And then there is Brad, who brings back memories of stolen kisses and first love. And who questions if she is capable to raise Annabelle, which reinforces her own insecurities. And the twists keep coming in this wonderful small harbor town romance. Can Olivia embrace being a mother and keep her high-pressured job? Can she convince Brad that she is able to care for her niece? And can she believe him when he says he wants to try again? No spoilers here. You have to read this wonderful debut for yourself. And since this hints to being a series, my only question is when can I read the next book!

Conner What does a re-kindled romance with the one that got away; conquering self-doubting demons from the past and one adorable little baby have in common? They all come together to make a wonderful debut novel This Thing Called Love by Golden Heart winner Miranda Liasson.Olivia Marks vowed to make her success far away from her hometown of Mirror Lake, a place that held nothing but painful reminders of past failures and thoughts of never being good enough. After the death of her sister and brother-in-law, the New York self-help editor finds herself back in her hometown as appointed guardian of her four-week-old niece, Annabelle. All the self-help books in the world can’t prepare Olivia for instant parenthood. She’s got two weeks to figure it all out. To make matters worse Annabelle’s sexy green eyed restaurant entrepreneur uncle, Brad Rushford, Olivia’s first and only love, feels it would be better for everyone if Annabelle stays in Mirror Lake instead of moving back to New York with Olivia.Letting Olivia go was the biggest mistake Brad ever made. Bound by financial and family burdens and convinced he would only drag her down; Brad had no choice but to let Olivia go.Annabelle is all Brad has left of his brother and he’ll do whatever is necessary to secure her future, even if it means fighting his still powerful attraction to Olivia.Ms. Liasson weaves a delightful story, with a cast of enjoyable and well-developed characters that perfectly capture that small hometown feel. The writing is smart and witty. The plot has a good balance, with just the right amount of twists and turns that kept me turning the page. Honestly, she had me at the first chapter when baby Annabelle has a diaper malfunction in the middle of the grocery store…can you say clean up in aisle one! This book made me happy. It gave me that warm fuzzy feeling that reminded me why I love romance and HEA (Happily Ever After). And with the hint of more Mirror Lake romances (Yay us!), I think we’ll have the opportunity to be reading much more from the fabulous Miranda Liasson.

Heintz This Thing Called Love: A familiar beginning: High powered, big city, workaholic is given custody of a baby. (Baby Boom with Diane Keaton.) While the premise may seem the same, that’s where it ends.Olivia Marks life turns into total chaos when her sister and brother-in-law are both killed in an accident. She leaves her New York job as an editor of self-help books for two weeks to collect her four-week-old niece, and to figure out how to make her life work. Her long days and weekends are filled with work. She has no time for a personal life, definitely no time for a baby, besides she knows nothing about raising one. What had her sister been thinking leaving Annabelle with her?The worst part is she must go back to her hometown and deal with the baby’s paternal uncle, Bradley Rushford. They’d been desperately in love ten years before but separated when she went off to college. She had dreams of a big city future and he’d been anchored at home in Mirror Lake with financial and family responsibilities.Their chemistry heats up to fever pitch as soon as they see each other. But Brad has an ulterior motive for getting close to her again - to take the baby away from her. This is Miranda Liasson’s debut novel. She blends her wonderful descriptions in with her enchanting characters. It’s fun and heart breaking and has the perfect ending. We all know the boy will get the girl, but it’s how they get there. There is good reason she won the Golden Heart award for it. It’s that good.
