On October 16, 2013, 437 students, 52 teachers, and 24 additional staff from Bay Point Preparatory High School in suburban Milwaukee, WI vanished without a trace, finding themselves countless light years away in the middle of an ancient, primordial wilderness. One year prior, the school held its first rendition of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," on a night that would prove fateful to both the students and faculty, as their lives crossed paths in an almost premonitory way, seeding the various horrors to come. Created and written by James Tynion IV (Batman Eternal) and illustrated by Michael Dialynas (Amala's Blade), "The Swarm" collects the critically acclaimed second arc (issues #5-8) of the best-selling series.

The Woods Vol. 2, by James Tynion IV

About the Author James Tynion IV got his start in the pages of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s acclaimed run on Batman at DC Comics in early 2012, where he co-wrote the backup stories for the best-selling Court of Owls and Death of the Family storylines. He has since written stories for Detective Comics, as well as writing the ongoing series Talon, and Red Hood and the Outlaws. He lives and writes in New York City, and is consistently amazed that people are actually letting him work on comic books professionally. He alternates between taking in the most grisly horror media he can get his hands on, and trying not to get choked up while listening to musical theater soundtracks. You can find him on Twitter @JamesTheFourth, or on his Tumblr. Michael Dialynas is an Athens, Greece based artist who has illustrated the worlds of AMALA'S BLADE, SPERA, SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN and currently THE WOODS for Boom! Studios.

Snatch up a high school, drop it on an alien world with dangerous creatures and watch the ensuing chaos. Who will live? Who will die? And will they ever return to Earth? Only time and the storyteller know for sure. Can't wait to find out! :)

Tynion's dialogue is totally impressive, with each character reading as entirely believable. Each issue here was focused on one specific character, flashing a year back to the innocuous high school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The plot thickens up, as Adrian unlocks his 'powers', and we start to get a better understanding of what this planet is. Dialynas blows the artwork out of the park too, really making this one of my favorite reads right now.Unfortunately, in this volume we leave the school itself behind entirely, and with arguably how little gets done narrative-wise, the four-issue format of the trades may be the collected book's biggest shortcoming. The complex setting took a moment to recall, and by the time I was back on page, the volume was over. This book is great, but the price-tags and format are getting me down, just the tiniest bit.

We all as humans deal with similar issues, especially as teenagers. I think each of these characters is clearly drawn, sympathetic, and interesting. I can't wait to read more.
