There's no denying that the seven year span between 1977-1983 was one of the darkest in New York Mets history. After all, it was during this time that the team failed to post a single winning season, traded away the most beloved Met of all-time, and took a back seat once again to their crosstown rivals, the Yankees (who were busy winning two World Series). But it was also a time in which quite a few colorful and memorable players donned the Mets uniform, while the Amazins slowly but surely began putting together the "pieces of the puzzle" that would eventually lead to a dramatic World Series win in 1986. 'The Seventh Year Stretch: New York Mets, 1977-1983' is the first-ever book to focus solely on this era of the team. Featuring all-new, exclusive interviews with players and those close to the team, the book is a fly-on-the-wall view of what was going on behind the scenes and on the field. Set up in the oral history format, 'The Seventh Year Stretch' reads like a documentary, but in book form.

Review "This book brings back many memories, some good, some bad but very enjoyable reading! It is interesting to read the views of many players. I wish I had that insight years ago when I was playing! This book is indeed different from the average baseball book because of the wide variety of player's views." --Jerry Koosman, Mets pitcher (1967-1978), 2× All-Star, 1969 World Series Champion, member of New York Mets Hall of Fame"Some very insightful information about what happened on the inside of the New York Mets during those very difficult but learning and growing years, between one championship and another. 'The Seventh Year Stretch' is a must read for any true Mets fan!" --John Stearns, Mets catcher (1975-1984), 4x All-Star"The Mets were such a part of my life growing up. They still are. This book took me back to the era where being a fan wasn't cool...but it made winning in '86 that much sweeter." --Gary "Baba Booey" Dell'Abate ['Howard Stern Show' producer, book author, longtime Mets fan]"This is a volume targeted at hardcore Mets fans. And the timing of its release couldn't be better." --Paul Hagen, MLB.com"This might be a forgotten Mets era for younger fans, but for those of us old enough to have lived through it, this book brings back memories - and nightmares! --Neil Best, Newsday

By Dave Marks I purchased the Kindle version of this book at about 630am today, and I’ve had a difficult time trying to stop reading it. (Luckily I’m vacation from work this week LOL). My first thought was why would anyone want to read a book about the terrible teams the Mets had in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Then I realized that I’ve never really seen a book with a similar subject matter, so I was going to give it a shot. I’m glad I did. It really brought me back to those hot summer days at a usually empty Shea Stadium where my fondest memory was constantly yelling, “Hendddddduuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu” for hours and hours in honor of my favorite Met of that era, Steve Henderson. I was impressed by the group of guys that Prato was able to interview for this book. Some of them I had not thought about it in literally over 30 years, but reading their funny tales and anecdotes really brought me back. In retrospect, it’s kind of amazing that those teams did not fare better, but I guess maybe that’s why they were called “The Amazin’ Mets” LOL. This is a very easy read, and if you have fond memories of that old cement stadium that they knocked down in Flushing a few years ago, this book will put more than a few smiles on your face. Enjoy it. So far I definitely am.

By Lou Rossi Amazing research, open and honest interviews from big name players, and a unique topic, paints the picture for an interesting and many times funny book about the building of the New York Mets championship teams of the 1980's. What did all the new guys think of veteran Tom Seaver? How does it really feel to be traded? And why was Lee Mazilli really so popular? Ya gotta ask Baba Booey that one! Whether your a Mets fan or a true baseball fan, this book is a must read!
