I go to the gym and try to eat as healthy as possible but have been debating whether or not to become a vegan for a long time, because I love great tasting food but I took a chance on the vegan cookbook, and I honestly can say the recipes I have enjoyed using this book has been better than my traditional meals involving meats, and also has shed new light on what it means be a vegan. One particular recipe I really enjoyed was the "Bodacious Black Bean Burgers" and compared to the average american burger it stands head and shoulders above them in taste & overall healthiness. You will not regret this buy, the vegan cookbook is amazing!!!

The words written, play the role of our voices as we read the instructions with a soft melodic rhythym. We hear and feel and read the words which try to hypnotize us into a calm state where we can totally control our bodies and minds. These words are guiding us through the stress of the day into a wakeful comfort, where we can feel the stress lift from our bodies into nothingness. Good reading for those who are needing some comfort from the world of everyday stress and hectic lifestyles. Follow the words and find calmness at the end of the day.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good Induction By Sophisticated Sally Sue Loved the induction. In fact, I liked it so much, I spent an hour re-writing it as a self-hypnosis induction for myself. Didn't like the middle part that was a fairy tale relating to how a person responds negatively to the unknown (this is why I deducted a star, others might feel much differently about this section). This was only a page or two. I've been looking for scripts for pain. I got this book through the Amazon Unlimited program . I think you can feel the author's compassion come through. All in all, a good booklet. (it's quite short)

He'd been dreaming, a very hot dream about a sexy lady—faceless, but with a gorgeous body—and then he'd heard the loud female shout. Caught between drugging sleep and abrupt wakefulness, confusion swamped him.He looked around his shadowed bedroom and found it as empty as ever. No one lurked in the corners, certainly not the lady he'd been dreaming of, yet the voice had seemed to be right upon him. Heart still tripping, he strained to hear, and caught male laughter floating in through his open window. He frowned.A glance at the clock showed it to be only seven-thirty. He'd barely been in bed at all, not long enough to recoup from the strenuous night. Certainly not long enough to finish that tempting, now elusive dream. The deep female voice came again."It's not funny, you moron, and you know it," the woman groused, showing no consideration for those people still trying sleep. "I can't believe you did this to me.""Better you than me, sweetheart." Then, "Ouch! Now that hurt."Zack threw off his sheet. Wearing only his boxers, he went to the window to look out. He shivered as the morning air washed over his mostly bare body. The mid-September nights were getting cool, but he preferred the fresh air for sleeping. He stretched out aching muscles, still cramped from all the lifting he'd done just a few hours ago, scratched his chest, then slid aside a thin drape and peered down into the yard behind his house. His was a larger, more private corner lot, and the street behind him ran perpendicular to his own. His bedroom window, at the back of his house, faced the side lot, so that he could see both the front and backyard of the home behind him.New neighbors, he thought with disgust, noticing the For Sale sign now lying flat, and cardboard boxes piled everywhere around the yard. Squinting against the blinding red haze of a half-risen sun, his tired eyes gritty, he searched for the source of the screeching. When his gaze finally landed on her, he stared in stunned disbelief.Extremely curly brown hair was only halfheartedly contained in a sloppy ponytail. He couldn't see the details of her upper body beneath an overlarge, misshapen sweatshirt, but her shorts showed off mile-long, athletic legs and dirty white tennis shoes. Zack surveyed her top to bottom, and because a lot of distance stretched between those two points, it took a good minute. As a basic male, he immediately considered those long IS strong legs. With the erotic dream still dancing around the corners of his mind, he pictured them twined around him, or perhaps even over his shoulders, and speculated on how tightly they might hold a man when he was between them, buried deep inside her.As a discriminating man, he wondered why her hair looked such a wreck and what her upper body might present once out of that awful sweatshirt. And lastly, as a neighbor, he wanted to groan at the lack of consideration that kept her squawking and carping in a voice too deep and too loud to be called even remotely feminine. The future didn't bode well, not with her living behind him."Daddy?"Zack turned with a smile, but he felt ready to commit murder. Evidently, the noise had awakened his daughter, which meant there would be no going back to bed for him. Exhaustion wrought a groan in protest, but he held out a hand, smiling gently. "Come here, sweetheart. It looks like our new neighbors are moving in."Rubbing her eyes with a small fist, Dani padded toward him, dragging her favorite fuzzy yellow blanket behind her. Her wee bare feet peeked out from the hem of her nightgown. Standing out around her head, her typically mussed blond hair formed a halo, and one round cheek was creased from her pillow. She reached him and held up her skinny arms. "Let me see," she demanded in her adorable childish voice.Obligingly, Zack lifted her. His daughter was such a tiny person, even though she was now four. Petite, as her mother had been, he thought, and hugged her close to his naked chest. He breathed in her little girl smell, rubbed his rough cheek against her downy soft hair, kissed her ear.She liked to be held, and he loved holding her.As usual, Dani immediately gave him a wet good-morning kiss on his whiskered cheek. She wrapped her arms around his throat, her legs around his waist, and looked out the window. Her blanket caught between them.Zack waited for her reaction. Dani never failed to amuse him. For a four-year-old, she was very astute, honest to a fault, and he loved her more than life itself. Most of the kids her age asked constant questions, but not Dani. She made statements instead. Other than two days a week at a preschool, she was always in the company of his friends. Zack assumed her exposure to adults accounted for her speech habits."I see her butt," she said with an exaggerated frown.Startled, Zack lowered his head to peer out the window again, and sure enough, the woman bent at the waist, her legs straight and braced apart for leverage as she tugged on a large box. Her shorts were riding rather high and he could just see the twin moons of her bottom cheeks.Nice ass, he thought appreciatively, lifting one brow and looking a little harder. Dani poked him, and he shook his head, remembering that this woman had just awakened him from a much-needed sleep and a pleasantly carnal dream. "Wait until she stands up, Dani."The woman tugged and pulled and when the box broke apart, she fell backward, landing on that nice behind. From somewhere on her porch, a man hooted with loud laughter and called out, "Want some help?"Zack fancied he could see some of her curly brown hair standing on end. She all but vibrated with temper, then snarled in a voice reminiscent of an enraged cat, "Go away, Conan!""But I thought you wanted my help?" came the innocent, taunting reply."You," she said back, standing up and dusting herself off with enough force to leave bruises on a less hearty woman, "have done enough."Zack tried to see the mysterious Conan, but couldn't. Her husband? A boyfriend? What kind of name was Conan anyway? As the woman gained her feet, Dani said in awe, "She's a giant!"Chuckling, Zack squeezed her. "She looks as tall as me, doesn't she, honey?"His daughter nodded, watching the woman unload the box with jerky, angry movements, rather than try to move it again. Dani laid her head on Zack's chest, quietly thinking in that way she sometimes did. Zack rubbed her back, waiting to see what she'd say next. She shocked him speechless by suddenly leaning forward—leaving it up to him to balance her off-balance weight—and cupping her hand to her mouth, she shouted out the window, "Hello!"The woman turned, looked up with a hand shading her eyes, searching. She spotted them and her frown was replaced by a bright toothy smile. She waved with as much enthusiasm as she'd used to dust her bottom. "Hello there!"In his underwear, Zack quickly ducked behind the curtain. "Dani," he said, ready to muzzle his daughter. "What are you doing?"She wrinkled her little nose at him. "Jus' being neighborly, like you said I should.""That was to the old neighbors. We don't even know these people yet."She wiggled to get down, and when he set her on her feet, she said, "We'll go meet 'em now."Zack caught her by the back of her cotton nightgown as she started to barrel out of the room. "Hold on, little lady. We have breakfast and chores and washing up to do first, right?"Again, she wrinkled her nose. "Later."He almost grinned at her small, sweet hopeful voice—a voice she only used when trying to wrap him around her itty-bitty finger. "Now."Disgruntled and grumbling under her breath, she trod back to the window and yelled, "I'll be out later!"The woman laughed. It was a nice rich husky sound, much better than her screaming. "I'll surely still be here."Zack looked out, feeling as if he'd landed in the twilight zone. Now that his daughter had drawn attention to them—and the neighbors knew they'd been watched—he couldn't very well ignore them. The man from the porch sauntered into the yard, smiling. Zack blinked with yet another surprise. Massive was the only word for him. Built like a large bulldog, he stood a few inches shorter than the woman, but was twice as thick and all muscle. He lifted an arm as stout as a tree trunk and waved."I'm Conan Lane," he called out, "and this squawking shrew is Wynonna."To Zack's amazement and Dani's delight, the woman elbowed Conan hard, making him bend double and wheeze, then she corrected sweetly, "Call me Wynn."Seeing no hope for it, Zack shouted back, "Zack Grange, and my daughter, Dani.""Nice to meet you both!" And then to further exasperate him, Wynn said, "Since we're all awake and it's such a beautiful morning, I'll bring over some coffee so we can get acquainted."Zack stammered, unsure how to deny that audacious imposition, but she'd already turned and hurried into her house, the enormous Conan following her. He frowned down at Dani, who shrugged, grinned, and said, "We better get dressed." And off she dashed, her blanket dragging behind her.Zack dropped to the side of his bed and scrubbed his hands over his face. He was badly in need of a shave and a long shower. At the moment he had no doubt his eyes were more red than blue. He'd worked twelve grueling hours last night, tended two especially trying emergencies, and he was starved as well as fatigued.Luckily, this was his day off, which he'd intended to spend shopping with Dani. Because his daughter liked to play hard, and paid no mind at all to the knees of her jeans or the elbows of her shirts, she was desperately in need of new fall clothes. He did not want to be bothered with outrageous neighbors.Especially not neighbors who'd awakened him too early and were too damn large. And loud.Shoving himself off the bed, he determined to get through the next few minutes with as much politeness and forbearance as he could muster. The doorbell rang not three minutes later. He'd barely had time to pull on jeans and a sweatshirt. He picked up his running shoes, carrying them loosely in his hand. On his way to the door, he peeked in at Dani. She stood there in a T-shirt and blue-flowered panties, surveying her closet with a studious frown.Zack leaned on her doorframe. "Dress warm, honey."She nodded, frowned some more, and looked through her clothes. Zack bit back a grin and asked, "Hard decision?"She was so intent on her choice, she didn't answer.Because jeans were a given, he said, "How about a sweater?" preferring that over what she might have chosen otherwise—a ratty sweatshirt. He posed it as a suggestion, rather than an instruction, because he knew she liked to make her own decisions—about everything—any time he gave her that option. She nodded agreement. "Okay. What sweater?"He walked into the room, reached into her closet and pulled out a soft red sweater with multicolored buttons. "This one is nice," he suggested, trying his best to sound serious and sincere. She studied the sweater, considering, until the doorbell rang again. Snatching it out of his hand, she pushed at him and said, "Go! Go get the door, Dad!"Zack laughed as he walked away. His daughter, the social butterfly. Most times, Dani didn't give two cents for how she dressed. She'd pull on the same clothes from the night before if Zack didn't get them out of her room and into the hamper fast enough. But let them have company and she agonized. Not that she wanted to wear dresses. Heaven forbid! And anything other than sneakers or boots repulsed her four-year-old sensibilities. But she did like color. Lots and lots of color. Often if left to her own devices, she'd clash so horribly it'd make his eyes glaze.Still sporting a grin, Zack bounded down the stairs and went to the front door. He turned the locks and opened it, wishing he didn't have to do this today. He'd wanted nothing more than to sleep in, then take a long leisurely soak in the hot tub, eat an enormous breakfast, and spend the day with his daughter. Now he had to be neighborly. The second the door opened, the woman looked at him and her smile faded. "Oh dear," she said. "We woke you up, didn't we?"Zack went mute and stared.Up close, she seemed even taller, and she did indeed look him in the eye. At six feet tall, that didn't happen to him often. His two best friends, Mick and Josh, were both taller, Mick especially, who stood six foot three. But then they were both guys. They were not female.A light breeze ruffled her flyaway hair, which seemed to have been permanently crimped. The color was nice, a soft honey-brown, lighter around her face where the sun had kissed it. Curls sprung out here and there and everywhere, like miniature springs. He doubted such unruly hair could ever be fully contained.A soft flush colored her skin—high across her cheekbones, over the bridge of her narrow nose and the tip of her chin—either by the warmth of the day, her exertions, or the bright sunshine. Zack suspected the latter.Sporting a crooked smile, she stared right back at him with the most unusual hazel eyes he'd ever seen. So light they were almost the color of topaz, they were fringed by thick, impossibly dark lashes, especially given the color of her hair. After a silent moment, her arched brows lifted and her smile stretched into a full-fledged grin.Zack caught himself. Good God, he'd been staring at her as if he'd never seen a woman before. He'd been staring at her…with interest. He shook his head. "What gave me away?""What's that?" She now appeared confused."How could you tell that you woke me?""Ah. The hair standing on end? The all-night whiskers? Or it could be the bloodshot eyes." She made a tsking sound. "Have you slept at all?"He ran a hand through his hair and mumbled, "I worked pretty late last night," and left it at that. He wasn't with it enough yet to start rehashing the past evening's events. He pushed the screen door open and stepped aside. "Come on in."She looked behind her. "Conan will be right along. He's getting some muffins out of the oven. He's a terrific cook."Conan-the-massive cooked? The woman held up a carafe. "Fresh coffee. French vanilla. I hope that's okay?"He hated flavored coffees. "It's fine," he lied, "but totally unnecessary.""It's the very least I can do now that I know I got you out of bed."If she hadn't, he thought, perhaps he'd have finished that sexy dream and not been so edgy now. But as it was, he couldn't quite seem to get himself together. She hesitated at the door. "I really am so sorry. This is my first house and I'm equally stressed and excited and when I get that way, I unfortunately get—" She shrugged in apology. "—loud."Her honesty was both unexpected and appealing. Zack forced a smile. "I understand."

Yummy Reissue By Misuzmama Heartbreakers is a reissue of 'Treat Her Right' and 'Mr. November', the second and third books in the Men to Rescue series. The first is 'Caught In The Act' -which has been reissued in the book Enticing. The Men to Rescue series consists of three friends Mick (an undercover policeman), Zack (a paramedic), and Josh (a firefighter). In Treat Her Right, Zack meets his new sexy long-legged next door neighbor. He is instantly aroused by her and at the same time appalled. For Wynn is one big loud and in your face woman. Not exactly someone who could be considered mommy material for the widower Zack's daughter. And he's looking for a wife -but Wynn is not it. On the other hand, Wynn is instantly smitten and is not taking no for an answer and really *works it* to get her man.In Mr. November, Josh is the one firefighter who has refused to model for a calendar for charity. For some reason the ladies man doesn't want to feel like a piece of meat. Amanda, a straitlaced beauty, who is promoting the calendar pulls out all the stops to get him to sign on. Only Josh wants a date and maybe something more. But Amanda has some serious sexual hangups and emotional issues from a long ago tragedy. She doesn't do relationships. Now all Josh has to do is to convince the woman he loves to take a chance on him.Get your hands on these two oldies but goodies. This is why Foster became a popular romance author -unique heroines, sexy-as-hell hero's, realistic plot lines and tons of sexual tension with just the right amount of love scenes for each couple. Just a great book to add to my collection. On par with the Buckhorn series as a comparison. My other Foster favorites are-Enticing (Casey / Caught in the Act)- specifically CaseyWhen Good Things Happen To Bad Boys- Dr. Axel Dean *swoon*A Very Merry Christmas (Twins' Bad Boys)- SWAT cop OzzieBad Boys Of Summer (Twins' Bad Boys)- "Luscious" Lucious *double swoon*

I enjoy a good story and a happy ending. But I do like a story that is about something more than just the romance. The hero and, especially, the heroine need to have lives and something going on in them, besides their relationship with each other. This book, the first I've read by the author, is missing that element, at least as far as I read (halfway). We are told that the heroine is a physical therapist and has her own business. Surely that has taken some effort and determination to achieve. She has just bought her first house and is excited about it. But that is as much about her life as we learn. The hero has a daughter. We are told over & over that he's a great father and a stand-up guy. He's a paramedic and at least we hear a little bit about his job--that it's physically demanding. And we know he has friends. But that's about it.Beyond that, the plotline is: he wants to get married to have a mother for his daughter. He wants someone feminine and sweet. He disapproves of the heroine because she is "loud" and "bossy" and "too big." We see no evidence of the "loud" and "bossy" other than that she argues with her brother in a good-natured way on moving day, and she has a perfectly normal level of assertiveness (and actually low self-esteem--she never tells the guy to shove off when he insults her, which any normal woman would). Never mind that she is kind, beautiful, accomplished, funny, and financially secure. She basically has to beg him to go to bed with her. Presumably his sexual attraction gradually allows him to see that she is "worthy."What kind of a lesson do we take away from this? She is almost groveling for his approval and attention through much of the book. I'd have said, pick someone who is crazy about you for who you are. Not someone you have to "win over."There are better authors out there for a fun, romantic, sexy read. Try one of those instead.

Especially when they are die hard bachelors who don’t have time to pursue love and fate decides to send them their exact opposites to tease and confound them. I loved how the two men were so different and the women that tamed them were unique and fun to get to know. Having two fun stories in a row is the perfect weekend treat and I enjoyed every moment because the one thing Ms. Foster knows how to do is write romance. The first story was Treat Her Right which follows a man who works grueling hours as an EMT. His free time is spent exclusively with one woman, his four year old daughter, Dani. The author makes it very clear early on that Zack’s main love of his life is his daughter. Their dialogue and interaction was cute, oftentimes funny and it gave the hero’s character emotional depth. It’s Dani that breaks the ice with the new neighbor and once that door was opened, it was a wonderful journey of discovery.Wynn is a unique heroine. She’s tall, she’s rough and she has some wicked self-defense moves. She uses her techniques on Zack much to his chagrin and my delight. I love how Ms. Foster gave her heroine unruly hair and I laughed out loud when I met her parents for the first time. It was comedic and charming and Wynn ends up being perfect for Zack. Of course, he fought it like a stubborn bachelor would. It was Dani who recognized the possibilities that Wynn represented and she liked them, a lot. Kids are smart that way.The camaraderie between Zack, Mick and Josh were pure entertainment. Throw in Wynn’s eccentric but well-meaning parents and the author presented a wonderful backdrop community to support Zack and Wynn’s romance. Add in the other muscle guys and there were many moments of ear to ear grins. When Zack and Wynn finally get to scratch the sensual itch, it was very steamy. The hammock scene was hot and the hot tub scene was sexy and cute too. The physical side of their romance was well written and very romantic. I liked how Ms. Foster wrapped up the story because it made me smile. I enjoyed myself immensely reading Treat Her Right. The second story was Mr. November. It made all the sexy hot posters of bare chested firemen in turnout gear that I’ve ever seen come to life in glorious complexity. Josh was the playboy in the Zack’s story but this time around he’s found a lady who confounds him, challenges him and confuses the heck out of him. What kind of woman can make a fancy free bachelor toe the line?Amanda, the calendar organizer, is Josh’s Achilles heel. She is the one with the issues and they are a real stumbling block to romance – as far as she is concerned. She is hard on herself but her standoffish attitude doesn’t protect her from Josh. I liked seeing her emotional growth under his care. Of course his ‘care’ isn’t the normal kind, which confuses her and has the heroine bemused much of the time. His tenderness, his seduction techniques and his perseverance wears her down so she eventually shares with the hero her internal pain. It’s Josh’s reaction that has her daring to hope in the impossible. I liked the dance between the two as they got to know each other and I felt it was the strongest appealing aspect of the story.Whereas with Zack’s story the sex occurred early on in the tale, with Josh it was a slow, simmering buildup that had me flipping the pages in earnest. What was Josh going to have to do or say to convince Amanda to take a chance on him and on their budding relationship? The answer was very romantic, yet I imagine very painful for Josh. He really showed his heroic colors in this story for sure, most certainly his patience and commitment to loving Amanda. How can a book get any more romantic that that? The epilogue wrap up was sweet, all-encompassing and satisfying. I love a good happy ever after.Heartbreakers is a must have for fans of Ms. Foster. It has everything I love about her books; sexy alpha men, strong female heroines and delightful emotional characterizations that make me care about them, enough to make me cheer and get giddy happy when the romance comes to fruition. Even though it’s a two book novel, it was a fast read because it flowed so well, the dialogue was awesome and the dynamics between the primary characters and secondary characters were so well grounded yet unique and entertaining. I completely enjoyed myself while reading this book and I definitely recommend it to romance readers everywhere.originally posted at long and short reviews

Review ''Palmer . . . is the queen of desperado quests for justice and true love.'' --Publishers Weekly, praise for the author

About the Author Diana Palmer, the author of more than one hundred books, got her start as a newspaper reporter. A New York Times bestselling author, and voted one of the top ten romance writers in America, she has a gift for telling the most sensual tales with charm and humor. She lives with her family in Cornelia, Georgia.

The impressive pale yellow Spanish-styled stucco house sat between barbed wire fences, far back off the ranch road at the end of a dusty, winding driveway. Kate Whittman was glad to be poking along on the old quarter horse Jason had given her instead of driving. It had been dry in this part of Frio County, Texas, for some weeks now, and the dust was much less noticeable on a slow-moving horse than in a car.The Donavan driveway had never been paved. The ranch covered thousands of acres and spare cash always went into buying more cattle, not into modernizing roads. In these days of low cattle prices and overwhelming interest on ranch loans, it took a business mind like Jason Donavan's to keep the wolf away from the door. Her green eyes scanned the horizon. It was roundup time, Kate knew, and on an operation this size, the spread had to be broken down into sections. Each camp had its own crew and foreman, and Jason would be riding around from one to the other to keep an eye on things. During roundup, somebody always got hurt. While broken bones, burns, contusions, and abrasions were part of the usual demands of ranch work, herding cattle and branding always brought grief. This time the boss himself had run afoul of a maddened mama longhorn, and the ranch foreman had gone sneaking over to Kate's house to fetch her. Any time Jason got hurt, they sent for Kate, because Jason Donavan wouldn't let anybody else near him. He trusted Kate because she wasn't afraid of his temper, and because she alone could manage him when that temper was at flash point.Kate sighed wistfully, thinking about all the times she'd come down this winding driveway. She and Jason didn't date; in fact he hardly seemed to notice her as a woman. But she'd been friends with his younger brother Gene, and with the housekeeper, Sheila, long before that odd kind of friendship developed between Jason and herself, born out of an equally odd confrontation one night when he'd been drinking. He didn't let anyone very close, even Kate, but she was allowed privileges that no one else was. He was protective of her, in a rough sort of way; a kind of unrelated older brother. Of course, that wasn't at all what Kate wanted from him. But it was as much as she could expect from a man who kept to himself the way he always did. There was a lot of road between the open range with its spacious improved grazing land, green now that spring had arrived, and the house resting in its solitary nest of trees. In one pasture, cows with new calves were grazing. In another, young castrated bulls made up the steer crop. In still another, huge Santa Gertrudis bulls had been turned out with hearty longhorn-Santa Gertrudis crossbred cows for the third stage in Diamond Spur's three-crossbreed breeding program. In still another pasture, purebred longhorn bulls had been introduced to the crop of two-year-old heifers for their first breeding. The longhorn papas would insure that the new mothers dropped small calves, insuring an easy delivery and less herd losses.Kate smiled at the efficiency of it all. Jason was a wizard with cattle. His sprawling cow-calf commercial operation had a spotless reputation with its customers, and a large part of it was due to Jason's personal interest in his ranch and the time he spent overseeing every part of its operation. He was always the first to try new techniques, to use better methods of production. That ability to change with the times, to bend to the demands of modern cattle marketing, had kept his Diamond Spur ranch solvent. When, several years back, other ranchers had turned to investing heavily in new land acquisitions, Jason was experimenting with artificial insemination and embryo transplants and innovative methods of nutritional supplementation.Kate pushed back her long, dark brown braid and settled lower in the saddle. She grimaced as her jean-clad leg brushed over a nail peeking through the leather. She'd designed and decorated these jeans herself. She hoped they weren't torn because they were part of a collection she hoped to sell to the manufacturing company where she worked. She really couldn't afford any new denim. Things were in bad shape at the small place she shared with her mother, but she didn't want Jason to know just how bad. Anyway, he didn't need any more worry at the moment. The cattle industry was depressed, and even a man with Jason's business sense could go broke. If he lived, she thought with black irritation, remembering how impossible he was about injuries. Jason never would go to a doctor with a cut. He'd try to treat it himself and the only way he'd have it seen about was if it got badly infected, or if Kate stuck her nose in. For Jason's foreman Gabe to run off in the middle of a roundup hunting her, and risking the boss's temper asking her to intervene, it must be pretty bad this time.Nobody ever seemed to guess that she wasn't as confident as she pretended to be with Jason. He intimidated her, too. After all, he was thirty—almost ten full years her senior. But she'd learned over the years to hide her uncertainty. Now her dark, slender eyebrows drew together as she wondered if he'd done some irreparable damage to his tough hide. He was male perfection itself, as most of the single women around San Frio would have agreed. It was a pity that he'd become such a dyed in the wool misogynist. She wondered how he'd ever get an heir for Diamond Spur with that attitude. And if anything happened to Jason, his younger brother Gene would never be strong enough to hold the family finances together. The Diamond Spur had belonged to Jason Donavan since the death of his father, although Gene would inherit a good share of it. Old J.B. Donavan had drowned when the Frio River came down in flood one spring morning eight years ago. But the ranch's name went back a lot longer than eight years. Back in 1873, a Civil War veteran named Blalock Donavan had chanced to sit in on a poker game in San Antonio. In a game that went on all night, and during which one man was killed for cheating, the young Confederate sergeant from Calhoun County, Georgia, won the last hand with a legendary straight diamond flush—and without any wild cards to make that impossible feat any more possible. In the pot had been a total of one hundred Yankee dollars—and the deed to a broken down cattle ranch in Frio County, Texas. The ranch hadn't had a name at the time. Everyone locally just called it the Bryan place. But Blalock Donavan had won it on a Royal Diamond Flush, with a silver spur in the kitty as his part of the ante. So the Diamond Spur it became. The Diamond Spur it remained. And a Donavan still owned it, 113 years later.Kate's pale green eyes softened as she saw the heavy-set woman bending over a pan on the front porch. Diamond Spur was one of the richest cattle ranches in Texas, enabling Jason to drive a Mercedes and a new very classy black Bronco. The interior of the house was like an antique museum, with pieces from around the world. And Jason entertained on a lavish scale. In fact, Jason's kitchen had every modern convenience, but his housekeeper, Sheila James, still did her own canning.Sheila was an institution at the ranch. Rumor had it that she'd been madly in love with old J.B. Donavan, but that gentleman had no use for women after his Nell deserted him and his two sons. The old man took to strong drink and became a holy terror. They said even Sheila had grown afraid of him after that, but that she'd stayed on to look after the boys. She had character and an uncanny tolerance for people. She had a lot of perseverence, too, because old J.B. Donavan had been a hardcase with a mean temper. Jason still was, although Kate could reach him when no one else could. That was something of a joke locally, Kate knew, but nobody laughed about it in front of Jason.Sheila looked up from the lazy rhythm of the front porch swing, her blue eyes sparkling as Kate came closer. "I sent Gabe after you. I hope you don't mind," she said apologetically. "I figured Jason would bleed to death and become an eyesore out there because his men would be too scared to bury him."She paused in the act of snapping green beans and stringing them, the shallow pan across the knees of her brilliant green and yellow checked housedress, her salt and pepper hair short and sweaty. She was fifty and looked it. Even Jason gave her a measure of respect, but Sheila was no match for his temper when it was aroused."Can't you do anything with him?" Kate replied mischievously."Not without a loaded gun," came the dry reply. "Gabe told me that Jason finally stopped the bleeding and bandaged himself, but the blood was still seeping through when he went out again. I'm afraid it needs stitches.""Well, I'll see what I can do," Kate promised. "Is he where Gabe left him, with the crew out on the Smith bottoms?""That's what Gabe said. Thanks, Kate," Sheila replied.Kate smiled as she turned the horse. "Old-fashioned transportation, isn't it?" She grinned. "But it's a long walk, and Mom has the car at work, since it's grocery store day.""And you wouldn't ride over with Gabe because he's sweet on you?" Sheila asked knowingly.Kate, who was twenty and a little nervous about men because of an extremely sheltered background, nodded. Her father and mother had raised her in the same strict fashion they'd been raised. They were old-fashioned, church-going people. And even though her father was dead, her mother was still a stickler for morality and didn't hesitate to ask Jason's opinion of Kate's infrequent dates. That rankled, too, but Kate's mother, Mary, thought the sun rose and set on the man. Kate's late father had been Jason's foreman, and she sometimes thought that was one reason Jason seemed to feel responsible for her and Mary. She drew her mind back to the present. "Gabe is a very nice man, but I want to be a fashion designer. I don't want to get married for ages yet."Sheila nodded, thinking privately that Kate and Jason got along so well because both of them wanted their independence. Jason would probably never marry since that Maryland woman had thrown him over for a movie contract."Good luck," she murmured. "He was already wound up and cussing when he went out the door this morning. Had some terrible things to say about what I did to his eggs." She sniffed, snapping beans with renewed vengeance. "Nothing wrong with salsa and refried beans on top of them. Well, is there?" she asked Kate.Kate knew how Sheila made salsa, and having tasted the extremely hot sauce once, she had every sympathy for Jason. "Why did you put salsa on them?""Because the minute his feet hit the floor, he started cussing because he couldn't find where I put his jeans, and then he swore the detergent I used gave him an allergic reaction, he said there wasn't enough cover on his bed…" Sheila's thin lips flattened. "I guess I cause cancer, too, although he stopped short of accusing me of that!"Kate shook her head, laughing softly. "You ought to short sheet his bed for him.""Oh, don't you worry, I'll get even," Sheila replied. "He loves cherry pie. Hell will freeze over and shiver before he gets another one."That wasn't quite true, of course. Jason would get hungry for that cherry pie and start flattering his housekeeper, and he'd have his cherry pie like a shot. He and Sheila had these blowups almost daily, and both forgot them just as frequently."Well, I'll go try to patch him up so you can get your own back on him," Kate offered."If you can get him back here, I've got some nasty antiseptic…!" the older woman called.Kate shook her finger at Sheila and rode on. But once she was on the narrow, rutted path through the grass that led to the holding pens, she felt a little nervous. Jason in a temper wasn't the most pleasant person to be around. Part of Kate was still a little afraid of him, although she wouldn't admit it or show it. He was a very masculine man, and he didn't bother to hide his faults; he just let them hang out for everyone to see. He'd never have made it as a diplomat.Kate smoothed her hands down her jeans and fumbled to tuck the shirttail of her faded blue print blouse back into them. Down the road, a deep, drawling male voice called out orders with more than the usual amount of venom, rapid-fire Spanish reverting quickly to English and back again. Jason spoke both. Since most of the local ranch hands were of Mexican-American descent, being bilingual came as naturally as wearing boots around San Frio. Cattle bawled and dust was everywhere, with men on foot and men on horseback trying to keep some kind of mad order in all the confusion. This rural part of south Texas hadn't changed a lot since the Civil War. There was less native grassland because of the enormous amount of grazing that had been done back in the cattle era. These days ranchers who wanted good grass had to plant it, so the local Soil Conservation Service people were Johnny-on-the-spot with help for those who wanted it, as Jason had. But, too, there was a lot of scrub and more prickly pear and mesquite than anybody wanted. Despite the drawbacks, the open country was the same; wide and spread out and endless, with just a few scattered trees here and there to signal houses hidden from the sun. It was pioneer country. Cowboy country. And Kate, who'd been born next door to the Donavans, loved it with all her heart. Sitting astride the quarter horse with the wind blowing the grass down and teasing her shirt, she felt as free and unchained as the land itself. She left her horse at the big makeshift corral and moved along on booted feet, tugging nervously at her long swath of hair. Her hair was a deep, rich brown, down to her waist when she didn't braid it or put it up. She had a pretty oval face with wide-spaced green eyes under long lashes, and a straight nose and a bow mouth. It wasn't a particularly beautiful face. It was thin and high-cheek-boned. But Kate had a sweet personality and a kind of unabashed honesty that overshadowed her lack of beauty.

I picked it up after a friend recommended her as a nice change from the cookie cutter romances I was burning out on. I didn't know this was a re-issued book at the time but honestly that doesn't matter much. A good story shouldn't be about being "politically correct" as one person stated but about good characters that are human and not perfect. Diana Palmer's style of a younger woman falling for an older man was refreshing to see outside historical novels. It adds a new dimension to the novel, a way to view things without having both the hero and herione jaded and bitter. This story takes place in West Texas, something I loved because I live here and I could picture every scene so perfectly. It's hard to find writers who place stories in Texas and can do it both well and accurately. The hero of this story is Jason who owns of the Diamond Spur, a sprawling cattle ranch in the dry, dusty Texas backland. Kate is the naive, playful herione who has loved Jason since she met him at 18. Jason and Kate have a unique, non-threatening relationship until one day, Jason begins to see that Kate has grown into a woman.I really liked the first part of this story. The tension between these two characters was explosive and they pratically sizzled together. Jason and Kate are irresistably drawn together and you can't help getting a little breathless reading their scenes and wondering why no handsome cowboy ever popped into your life? But these scenes were heavily tempered by lengthy and long winded sections about Kate's asspirations to be a fashion designer and her job at the local textile factory. These scenes seemed so disjointed and irrelevent to the rest of the story and I felt like Palmer was just trying to use all the research she found on the textile and fashion industry. This happens repeatedly and I began skipping the sections as they didn't affect the main plot. The second half of the book didn't meet the standards of the first half. Instead it was boring and frustrating to read. Jason flips back and forth from a loving husband to an abusive, raging cowboy. Kate also wavers from being strong willed and fiesty to a heap of self-pity. I wanted to scream for Kate not to take all of Jason's abuse. The most annoying part to this book by far though was the ending. Jason has been estranged from his mother since she left him and his brother when they were young. He vows never to forgive or see her though she sends him a card every christmas. Then at the end of the book he does a sudden about face and his long lost mother is suddnely a part of the family and hard, never-give-a-damn Jason is an emotional puddle. It was unbelievable and i felt offended that Palmer would think I, as a reader, wouldn't notice the huge plot jump that had little build up.Once Jason decides he and Kate are meant to be after about 200 pages of indecision he and Kate start "love talking." The "oh, my love" and "you are my destiny." I felt embaressed just reading it. Even people I know who are madly in love don't talk like this. It sounded incredibly melodramatic and forced.Though this book was a fun read and turned me onto Diana Palmer i wouldn't say it was one of her best. The book fizzles halfway through and by the end the hero is nearly baby talking to the herione. For a light read check this out but for something a little more mature and with more meat check out her other books.

10 of 12 people found the following review helpful. what a bummer..... By bluepooh I was on my way out of town and pick this book up on a whim as I breezed through a book store...I love western romance, but I had a hard time finishing this one!I did'nt realize it was a reissue, and after checking other reveiws after I returned home..I can see now why this rancher was such a demanding man (I am glad times have changed!).Anyway...this paperback was a waste of paper...I didn't care for the way Jason treated Kate and I felt it was borderline abusive and Kate just put up with it! Half of the book was spent describing what everyone was wearing, do you really need to know what someone has on everytime they enter the room? or when they light a cigarette? The romance was hard to find in this novel..at least the heart pounding kind I was looking for! I will be more careful when I grab a Diana Palmer book in the future..

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Not what I expected By Avid Reader! After reading the reviews on this book I was extremely hesitant to buying this novel. However, I bought it on a wim and absolutely loved it. I can not disagree more with the other reviews. Diana Palmer takes Kate and Jason through a whirl wind of emotional stir. Kate having always been looked at as his "little sister" caused Jason some serious life questions. An unexpected twist put them through more emotion then I have seen in most books. Granted he does smoke a lot, which is a huge turn off, however his flaws make up who he is. This book does a lot of repeat actions and arguments, however, I throughly enjoyed the emotional twister!

Chicken Shawarma, Beef Artichoke Stew, Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Pistachios… from the host of the critically acclaimed Fit Chef Show Laziez (How Delicious) comes this cookbook filled with healthy but easy to prepare Middle Eastern recipes. The dishes featured are a collection of the author’s family traditional Middle Eastern food recipes as well as his own experience at culinary school in Los Angeles, where he developed his signature style for a healthy Middle Eastern diet – a nutritious meal plan that has since not only been his secret to a great body but has enabled many of his personal training clients to lose weight and is a wonderful resource for families that want to eat fresh, fast and healthy. Though the words “organic”, “bio” or “sustainable” were unknown to Nader’s family in Syria, his mom’s cooking approach qualified on all counts as all dishes were prepared with fresh produce, ingredients from the local markets and authentic spices from the region like Sumac and Cinnamon. No longer considered exotic--all the essential ingredients for Middle Eastern Cuisine and a Mediterranean diet are now readily available in supermarkets in the US, providing cooks with the necessary tools to recreate the flavors of the region in our own homes. “Healthy Recipes for Middle Eastern Food” will explain you how to do exactly that with simple and easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions, often using healthier ingredients and time-saving methods without ever sacrificing any of the extraordinary flavor, freshness and texture that distinguish the cooking of this part of the world. But as a personal trainer, culinary chef and nutritional specialist, Nader won’t leave you there. Unlike many of the conventional Mediterranean food or Middle Eastern recipe books, “Healthy Recipes for a Middle Eastern Food” looks at authentic dishes, spices and herbs from a nutritional point of view, describing the health benefits of each ingredient and thus providing you with all the necessary background information for a healthy lifestyle.

For the woman who moves more than she rests By Trelani Michelle Jamie's Guide to Calm is an excellent resource for those who are too often overwhelmed with their days' tasks and find themselves in that space of pouring of themselves more quickly than they can refill. In the beginning, she shares her personal story of how and why she decided to choose peace. I can relate to being the friend that everyone thinks has it together and keeps a level head when in actuality it hasn't always been that way. And it being inner perspective, not your outer circumstance, that makes the difference. She offers resources regarding stress, meditation, yoga, mindfulness, affirmations, and more. If you've been curious about these practices, or maybe you started then stopped, you need this book. Happy reading!

By Ivy Felicia What I truly enjoy about this book is the fact that it is written in such a clear, concise, and simple way. Often times books that speak on spirituality or wellness are written in language that is complex and wordy, making it difficult for the reader to connect. However, because this is written in such a simple way, it can be used by any Black Woman, to help her find calm at any stage of life. This would be a good gift for any Black Woman in your life who is dealing with stress and may be looking to improve her holistic wellness.
