Chambers The DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) is a dietary regimen promoted by the U.S. National Institutes of Health to prevent and control hypertension. The DASH diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy foods; it includes meat, fish, poultry, nuts and beans, and is limited in sugar-sweetened foods and beverages, sodium, red meat, and added fats. In addition to its effect on blood pressure, it is designed to be a well-balanced approach to eating for the general public.The DASH Diet Action Plan book begins with the basics of a DASH diet, including recommended servings of grains; vegetables; dairy products; meat, poultry, and fish; nuts, seeds, and legumes; and fats and oil. The book then presents tips for active people who may not have the time to prepare nutritious meals that conform to the DASH recommendations. Following a DASH regimen should result in weight loss for overweight persons, and the book includes a number of recipes that should contribute to weight loss while also being tasty. Since the ultimate goal of the DASH diet is control of hypertension, the book features chapters devoted to suggestions for steps to ensure that this important goal is met, including sample recipes for main dishes, salads, side dishes, and desserts.The book is fairly short, but it contains the basic information that people who are considering a DASH diet would want to know. On the go can still keep you fit – with the solid advice from Nick Bell By Grady Harp Nick Bell has rolled so much information into this combination nutrition/health guide and recipe book that it should be a no–brainer to add this to your Kindle library. You’ll likely be referring back to it often after the first reading. Nick subtitles his book ‘Lose Weight, Lower Blood Pressure and Feel Amazing!’ and after taking the journey through these pages you’ll see he is an informed coach and a fine chef to boot!The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet, aside from being quick to incorporate into your routine and make life easier, is meant to keep you fit while maintaining a busy lifestyle. The basics of the diet (aimed at reducing sodium intake) points out the important constituents of grains, vegetables, fruits, lean meat/poultry/fish, nuts/seeds/legumes, low-dairy products and ’some sweets and fat in small quantity to help a person lose weight and to control their blood sugar.’ He views the DASH diet as a lifelong commitment and not just a sporadic ‘Oh I’m feeling chunky and better reduce’ fad of necessity. That is one of the reasons this diet works well – consistency and learning to love eating correctly.Nick then explicitly outlines how to follow this diet for the busy person – nutritional snacks, lists, refrigerate foods, be creative with leftovers, hydrate, find time for fitness that works comfortably into your daily routine – not a burden you dread. For those with hypertension he offers tips: use spices, read labels, don’t cook with salt, stay away from processed foods, add magnesium, use foods that contain potassium like avocado, dark chocolate, red wine and yogurt. He then offers recipes in several categories – for losing weight and for blood pressure control. The recipes that fill this book are easy to prepare, use ONLY nutritious ingredients, and are offered in such a way that even the most inexperienced chef can handle the challenges.For on the go people this book is an invaluable asset. Ruse I normally don't buy these types of books but but the truth is I couldn't find anything better than the advice in this book. it really helped me! I'm amazed with the level of detail, focus on scientific aspects of blood pressure, and it really helped me lose weight! Thank you!
