I was overweight and my cholesterol was high. I dieted and exercised and lost two stone and my cholesterol was brought down to a healthy level. I then drifted back to old eating habits and the exercise became less and less. I have since put a stone back on. I realised dieting is not a long term fix, changing my eating habits is and this book has been a tremendous help. I have a sweet tooth and a lot of my meals, because I work late hours, are pre-packaged microwave meals. Not the healthiest way to live. I thought cutting down on the white sugar would help, but it didn’t, yet the alternative of sweeteners was not an option as I loathe the artificial taste they leave in the mouth and using brown sugar never crossed my mind, thinking it was exactly the same as white. We now prepare our meals, which are not only healthier but tastier. The smoothie recipe makes a wonderful drink, as do the recipes for the clean diet meals. It is just a matter of re-educating ourselves and this book is an excellent first step in that direction and I can thoroughly recommend it.

By Nilah M I’ve been consciously moving towards clean eating and healthy food in the past couple of months. This bundle of books has helped me change my lifestyle completely. Chock-full of info about what it means to eat healthy, these books have helped me define my diet and choose the right kind of food- whole food, smaller meals and more fresh juices. The second book has initiated me into a raw diet and the recipes have really helped me create easy meals for myself. I am able to design a full grocery list and fill my pantry with the right things. I love the Energy Booster Smoothie, Zucchini Hummus, Breakfast Tacos and the Savoury Slow cooked soup. The author has also really explained why we need to adopt a clean diet. I love this bundle of books!

Freshly Created Recipes For A Clean Diet By ZaiJen Emma Rose caught my attention with many of the recipes that she listed for a clean diet by eating raw foods. Although these were two books, the ingredients remained the same. She reminded me that processed foods are not allowed when a person what clean and healthy foods. one particular recipe that caught my attention was the breakfast tacos with a raspberry filling and romaine lettuce.A recipe like the breakfast taco, is not one that I could think about myself, but it sounds delicious. Rose reminded me that for a healthy diet, a fresh raw meal sustains more nutrients than eating out. Other great recipes for both books included salads and smoothies tat me ad the entire family can both enjoy!

Hunkered low in the underbrush, Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer "Rip" Cord Schafer gripped the M4A1 rifle with the SOPMOD upgrade and inchedforward, carefully placing every step to avoid tripping, snapping branches or making any other loud noises. Loaded with sixty pounds of equipment specially selected for this mission, he was ready for anything.Gunny took point, leading the team into the Honduran camp, keeping to the darkness of the jungle. Moonlight shimmered through the occasional break in the dense overhead canopy, barely making it down to the jungle floor.Rip had his headset in one ear and listened for sounds of the camp with his other.Montana eased up behind Gunny, followed by Sawyer, then the newest SEAL, Gosling, with Rip bringing up the rear.Their mission: extract one undercover DEA agent from a terrorist training camp deep in the jungle of Honduras. No matter where he looked, Rip could detect no sentries standing guard or patrolling the compound. Strange. The DEA agent had been adamant about being pulled out. He 'd feared for his life and had been concerned the information he needed to pass on might be lost.In his brief plea to be extracted, he 'd given specificGPS coordinates. When Gunny reached the position, he held up his fist. The team stopped in place and hugged the earth, waiting. He pointed to Montana and Sawyer and gave them the follow-me sign. The three surrounded the door of the building. Gunny nudged it open and disappeared inside. Montana and Sawyer followed. Gosling and Rip remained outside, providing cover.Seconds later, they hustled out a man wearing rumpled clothing, his shoulder-length hair straggly and unkempt. He ducked low and moved quickly between them, hurrying toward the path leading out of the camp.Gunny motioned for Gosling and Rip to fall in with the team. They had their man, and it appeared as though they were going to make a clean getaway with none of the terrorists aware of the agent's departure. The hair on the back of Rip's neck stood straight up. The entire mission had been too easy. If there was any real danger, wouldn't there have been sentries on alert, wielding machine guns and willing to cut down anyone who stepped into range? They cleared the edge of the camp, heading back to the river and the waiting boat.Gunny was in the lead again, followed by Sawyer. Montana was in front of their extracted DEA agent and Gosling behind him.The agent stumbled for a moment.Gosling didn't adjust his stride in time. He caught up with the man then gave him a hand to right himself. The sharp report of gunfire ripped through the night, shattering the silence.Gosling collapsed where he stood.Another shot rang out and the DEA agent grunted and crumpled to the ground.Instinct made the remaining members of the SEAL team drop to their bellies. His heart slamming into his ribs, adrenaline racing through his veins, Rip low crawled to the two men who 'd been hit. He shone his red penlight over Gosling. The man had taken the bullet in the throat. By the dark stain spreading in a wide blob on the ground around him, Rip suspected the bullet had cut a hole in the young SEAL's jugular vein. He lay sprawled on his side, his body completely still. Rip covered the wound with his hand, but nothing he did could slow the flow of blood."Roll call," Gunny spoke into Rip's headset. One by one the other team members reported in."Montana.""Sawyer.""Schafer," Rip said. His heart in his throat, he reported, "Gosling took a hit."Sawyer spun around and low crawled with his weapon in front of him to where Gosling lay unmoving. He jerked Rip's hand off the wound. "Damn."Gunny muttered a curse, "Status."For a moment Rip closed his eyes, thinking of his last conversation with the young petty officer. Gosling's wife was expecting their first child. He 'd been so proud, scared and excited all at once.Sawyer answered, "Gosling's dead."Though Rip knew it, hearing Sawyer's confirmation made it all the more real and heartbreaking. Overwhelmed with grief but knowing they still had to get the agent out, he moved toward the other downed man a yard away. The agent had been hit in the chest. Without the armor plate the SEALs wore in their vests, he hadn't been protected."Our guest? " Gunny demanded. Rip felt for a pulse. As he pressed his fingers to the base of the man's throat, a hand snaked out and grabbed his wrist with surprising strength. In the darkness of the night, Rip could see the whites of the man's eyes staring up at him."Set up," the agent said, his voice nothing more than a guttural whisper. He reached up to the medallion around his neck, yanked it free and pressed it into Rip's hand. "Find out who.""Who what?"Rip asked."Status on our extraction?" Gunny's voice sounded loud in Rip's ear."Conscious, but not good," Rip replied, stuffing the medallion into his pocket.Shouts could be heard in the village behind them as the occupants raised the alarm. Lights blinked on and headlights lit the night. The tap, tap, tap of gunfire broke through the night's silence."Let's get out of here." Gunny raced back to where Sawyer and Rip were leaning over the wounded men. "I'll take the agent."The agent gripped Rip's arm and refused to let go.Rip straightened, bringing the man up and throwing him over his shoulder. "I've got the agent. Get Gosling. He deserves a proper burial."Cursing, Gunny hesitated only a moment before pitching Gosling over his shoulder, muttering, "This wasn't the way this was supposed to go down, damn it."Rip didn't wait. With the deadweight of the wounded agent bearing down on him, he took off at an awkward lope racing through the trees and vines toward the boat they'd left in the nearby river. Silence wasn't necessary. Speed was.Montana ran ahead to get the boat engines started. Sawyer brought up the rear, covering their sixes as Rip and Gunny carried their burdens over the uneven floor of the jungle.Shots rang out behind them. A vehicle full of angry terrorists raced toward them. Sawyer held them at bay, firing short bursts of rounds into the night. He ejected his clip and without missing a beat slammed another home while running backward to keep up with the other SEALs.When Rip reached the boat, he jumped on board and laid his charge on the deck. He manned his position behind a grenade launcher, waiting for Sawyer to emerge from the tree line.Gunny jumped on board, dropped Gosling on deck and took a position behind a machine gun.As soon as Sawyer cleared the trees, Gunny opened fire on the oncoming sets of headlights.Rip launched a grenade, aiming at the line of vehicles barreling through the underbrush. As Sawyer leaped aboard, Montana hit the throttle, spun the craft around on the water and gunned it, sending it speeding downriver, bullets plinking off the hull and hitting the water around them. Not until they were a good mile downstream did Rip glance down at Sawyer working over the body of the DEA agent.Rip shook his head. The mission had gone like clockwork. They'd been out of the village, on their way back. What the hell had happened? Rip glanced at his teammate's lifeless body on the deck of the boat. Gosling was dead. Two shots were fired and then none until the terrorists had loaded up in their trucks and given chase.Whoever had fired the first two shots could have taken out more, if not all, of the SEAL team. Why hadn't he?When the boat reached the helicopter landing zone, Sawyer rocked back on his heels, his shoulders slumped. Gunny shot a glance back at him. " Well? " Sawyer shook his head. "He's dead.""Hey, sweetie, would you like a drink?"Rip blinked up at the waitress standing beside him with a tray in her hands. For a full thirty seconds he couldn't remember where he was. He'd done it again. The shrinks he'd seen in the past had said part of post-traumatic stress disorder was flashbacks to events that had an indelible impact on him."Excuse me?" he said, buying time for his mind to reconnect with his surroundings."Would you like a drink?" the waitress repeated. He shook his head. "No, thank you."The woman moved away to the next customer in the casino.Rip stared around at row after row of brightly lit slot machines, pinging, ringing or plinking in the darkness. For a long moment he wondered how the hell he'd gone from a hot, humid, bug- and snake-infested jungle to an upscale casino in Mississippi. Then he remembered all the events that had led up to this meeting. All that had happened since getting back from Honduras. He stared around the dimly lit room. What's keeping him?The past six weeks since their failed mission had been a blur. Rip had been back on duty with his team, while covertly researching the odd medallion the DEA agent had shoved into his hand. The medallion had been a clever disguise for an electronic storage device on which were stored hundreds of photos of the terrorist training camp and crates of American-made weapons and ammunition disguised as World Health Organization donations. And based on the botched mission in Honduras, someone higher up didn't want the agent or anyone else exposing who was providing the weapons from the States. How else could a sniper have known exactly when and where they would be unless someone had tipped them off?Rip had pilfered a copy of the after-action report, developed the pictures and was in the process of piecing things together when an assassin started stalking him. He'd found out that details of their mission had been leaked. Not only after its failure, but before it had even been launched.Someone, possibly in a high-ranking political position, wanted that agent dead and had sent the SEALs in to get him out of the village and into the open so a sniper could take him out. It was the only answer he could come up with given the limited information he had.Rip was in hiding, officially missing and presumed dead. The Navy still thought he'd been swallowed by the Pearl River after being shot during a live-fire training mission with Navy SEALs Special Boat Team 22. If not for the help of former SEAL James "Cowboy" Monahan and Rip's old friend FBI Agent Melissa Bradley, Rip might not still be alive. The two had persevered, and searched the river until they found him holed up in a shack in the Mississippi bayou.Lucky me. Rip snorted. Now, after spending the past three weeks recovering from his gunshot wound, Rip was finally able to pursue his self-appointed mission. He'd gotten his commander and the few members of his team who'd been involved in his rescue to keep his survival on the down low until he could find the persons responsible for the death of the undercover DEA agent. He couldn't engage his team in this mission without disclosing to the world and to whoever was responsible for the assassination of the agent that the Navy's Chief Petty Officer Cord Schafer was alive and well. In order to keep from becoming a target again, it was best if he remained "dead" until he resolved the situation.Only, he knew he couldn't do it on his own. He needed a partner, a cover and fake passports to get him down to Honduras without raising red flags to the terrorist organization or the traitorous Americans supplying them with weapons.Sitting in a crowded casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, with a baseball cap pulled low over his brow, he waited for his contact, not knowing who he was or what he looked like, only that Cowboy's new boss, billionaire Hank Derringer, was sending one of his operatives from Covert Cowboys, Inc.Rip glanced up every time a man slowed near the slot machine he was only halfheartedly playing. He looked for a man in a cowboy hat and boots, but most of the men in the place were hatless, gray-haired and wearing comfortable loafers.Glancing at his watch once again, he started getting nervous. He hadn't been out in public since the mercenary had shot him. Feeling exposed, he sat at the designated position in the selected casino, at the exact time he was supposed to meet his contact.Where the hell was his cowboy?Shoving another token into the machine, he punched the spin button without caring what pictures he'd land on. He was surprised when three cherries lined up on the screen and tokens plinked into the tray below.Soft, slender hands slid over his shoulders and down the front of his chest, and a sultry voice whispered in his ear, "Getting lucky, sweetheart?"Nerves stretched to the breaking point, Rip fought the urge to grab the arm, spin around and slam the person to the floor. Instead, he spun on the stool in such a way he had the woman sitting across his lap before she knew his intentions. Her eyes widened briefly and then narrowed. "Wanna take your winnings and buy me a drink?" She had long dark brown hair, green eyes and a lean, athletic figure dressed in a red cotton sundress that screamed tourist.Though he gave the appearance of being happy to see her, his hand on her wrist was tight. She wouldn't get away easily or without raising a ruckus. He smiled at her and, through his teeth, he demanded, "Who the hell are you?"She smiled back at him, cupped his face with her other hand and patted his cheek, not so gently. "I'm your contact, so play nice and pretend you're happy to see me."For a brief moment he frowned. She laughed out loud. "If that's happy, you're a terrible actor. Make like we're a couple.""Since I didn't get the memo, I'm a little slow on the uptake. Let me set the stage." Getting past the shock of his contact's gender, Rip had to admit she was a lot prettier than any cowboy he might have expected. He wrapped his arm around her waist, then slid his hand up into her dark brown hair and pressed the back of her neck, angling her face toward his."What are you doing?" she said, her eyes widening."I would think it was obvious. I'm showing you how happy I am to see you." Then he captured her mouth in a deep, lip-crushing kiss.Apparently she was so shocked that her mouth opened. Rip slid his tongue in and caressed the length of hers.At first her hands, trapped between them, pressed against his chest. But after a moment or two, her fingers curled into his shirt and she kissed him back. When he finally came up for air, it took him a second or two to come back to his senses and remember where he was, yet again. He stood so quickly, he had to steady her on her feet before he let go of her. "Let's get out of here.""What about your winnings?" she said.He scooped up enough tokens for two full cups, carried them over to a gray-haired senior citizen and dumped them into her slot machine tray. "Congratulations, you're a winner." He kissed the woman's cheek, grabbed his contact's hand and headed for the door. The woman whose hand he held hurried to keep up with him in her bright red cowboy boots. "You were playing the dollar slots.""So?" he countered."That was probably a couple hundred dollars.""Then that woman will go home happy."He tipped his baseball cap lower over his forehead, slid his arm around her waist and smiled down at her as he stepped out into the sauna-like Mississippi late afternoon sunshine. "Where's your car?""This way." She guided him to the parking lot and stopped beside a large black 4x4 truck with twenty-inch rims and tinted windows."Seriously?" Rip shook his head. "This is yours?""One of the perks of working for Hank Derringer. That and an arsenal of every weapon you could possibly need." When she hit the key fob, the engine started and the doors unlocked. She opened the driver's side door and nodded to the passenger seat. "Hop in.""How do I know you really work for Hank?""You don't. But has anyone else shown up and told you he's your contact?""No.""You have that." She raised her eyebrows, the saucy expression doing funny things to his insides. "So, do you trust me, or not?"His lips curled upward on the ends. "I'll go with not.""Oh, come on, sweetheart." She batted her pretty green eyes and gave him a sexy smile. "What's not to trust?"

By ButtonsMom2003 While this book picks up where Navy SEAL Justice ended you don't need to have read that book to enjoy this one. "Rip" Cord Schafer is determined to find the bad guys behind the illegal arms trading and the people responsible for the death of one of his SEAL comrades as well as the DEA operative his unit was trying to rescue.Tracie Kosart, a former FBI agent and now a part of Covert Cowboys, Inc., was betrayed by her fiance and she wants nothing more to do with romantic relationships. Tracie and Rip are assigned to work together to bring down the bad guys. There is an instant spark of attraction between them but they both try to fight it.While this might sound like standard formulaic Harlequin Romance it was full of twists and surprises that kept me on the edge of my seat. The climactic final take down of the bad guy was great! This book had a HFN (happy for now) ending and, while I would have liked a little more, this was a very enjoyable and satisfying read. I hope there are more books planned for the Covert Cowboys. I'd now like to go back and read the stories that I've missed.I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

By Janet Overstreet I love the Covert Cowboy series and it seems like the stories in the series just keep getting better and better. Navy SEAL “Rip” Cord Schafer and former FBI agent/now Covert Cowboy operative Tracie Kosart really know how to play the “newlyweds”. They go from one action scene to another one. And then when you think it is finally over, there is more action. I really enjoyed reading this highly suspenseful, action-packed story.

Frank At the end of Navy Seal Justice Cord had just been rescued, but the bad guys behind his trouble were still on the loose. Cord is determined to find out who they are and stop them. To do that, his rescue has been kept quiet and he is thought to be dead. It is not something he can do on his own, so with the help of the Covert Cowboys organization, he will have the help and backup that he needs. He doesn't expect that help to be female operative Tracie Kosart, and being paired up with a woman is not what he had in mind.I loved their relationship right from the start. Cord makes his opinion known, but Tracie isn't one to back down from a challenge. It was great to see her match him every step of the way when it came to their covert activities. What they didn't expect was the attraction that made posing as newlyweds far too easy. Every time they touched the flames burned a little hotter and it got harder to resist giving in, until they decided to stop resisting. In spite of the reputation that SEALs have, Cord prefers to have emotions engaged when he's with a woman, but Tracie is insisting that it's just sex. He senses that there is something important behind her resistance. Tracie had been engaged to a fellow agent who turned out to be corrupt, and was just using her. And he was working for her boss, who was also corrupt. Their actions had resulted in her being held captive by a drug cartel until the Covert Cowboys came to her rescue. As a result, she has a great deal of trouble trusting men. Cord's caring attitude and growing respect for her abilities starts to build a trust she never thought she'd feel again. I loved seeing that trust turn into something more, and how they worked out having the future they both wanted. The suspense and action in the story was wonderful. Cord was determined to find out who was behind the transfer of weapons to the terrorists. Each step of the way the danger increased. The confrontation with the coffee plantation owner who was also one of the terrorists gave them some of the information they needed. The raid on the terrorist camp was intense, and the evidence retrieved put them on the road to the next step. They were really close to a breakthrough when their cover was blown and Tracie ended up kidnapped. I loved her confidence and trust that Cord would find her, and also that she didn't just wait around for it to happen, but took steps to save herself. The final showdown was great, and didn't end there. I loved the takedown of the last player.

In a high-stakes wager, The Rakes of Fallow Hall vowed never to marry. Fate, however, will play the final hand in the newest book from USA Today bestselling author Vivienne Lorret.

For the first time in her life, Hedley Sinclair holds the keys to her own future. She's inherited the crumbling Greyson Park, but the disrepair does nothing to dissuade her. No one will ever lock her up again or attempt to take away what's hers. No one except Rafe Danvers—the charming, fiendish man from Fallow Hall. He's determined to claim Greyson Park, but if Hedley isn't careful, he'll claim her heart as well.

Rafe has every intention of ridding Greyson Park of the conniving Sinclairs once and for all. The last thing he expects is to find the beguiling Hedley—the younger sister of his former fiancée—standing in his way. With drastic measures called for, he plans to marry her off in order to regain control of the estate. The only trouble is, he can't seem to stop seducing her. Even worse, he can't help falling in love with her.

So who was this mere girl who said it was hers? She claims to be Hedley Sinclair, sister to his former betrothed. During his whole courtship he could never remember anyone in the Sinclair family mentioning a younger sister. It did not matter who she was, she had to see reason and leave, for she was mistaken, Greyson Hall was his family's legacy. This plot is a very clever twist on the Cinderella tale. The book is fun, heartbreaking, romantic, hateful, beautiful, ugly. You will chuckle. You will cry. I usually hate these remade plots, especially fairy tales, but Lorret's version is fabulous. This is a fairy tale to be long cherished, just like the original fairy tale. The story is an emotional roller coaster that will keep you flipping those pages, and ending with a warm fuzzy, that warms your heart for days. So glad this is a series. I am clicking on Amazon to find the other Lorret novels now!

When she wasn't being verbally abused by her mother & sister she was treated as if she didn't exist. With the exception of the gentleman who her sister left at the altar...he had given her a nickname which made her feel as if he did see her & she fell a little in love with him that day. When her grandfather leaves her Greyson Park. Even though the house is in disrepair & she has no financial help from her mother she is elated...this is her chance for freedom. Until the 1 man she thought she'd never see again shows up claiming Greyson Park belongs to him & vows to prove it.Rafe Danvers wants 1 thing in life...Greyson Park. The home that should be part of his family legacy. The home that was to be part of the dowry he was to receive when he married, the now hated, Ursa Sinclair. Sinclair...the name still makes his blood boil. Having been left at the altar by Ursa Rafe has no trouble accepting the wager with his 2 best friends...the last one unwed at the end of 1 year wins 10,000 pounds....since he now has no intention of ever marrying & the money will provide is final payment on Greyson Park. While staying at Fallow Hall with his friends he notices smoke rising from the chimney of Greyson Park & goes to investigate only to find a Sinclair there. A Sinclair that claims the home is hers.Rafe & Hedley work together to keep the home from her sister & Rafe tries to marry Hedley off to the only remaining bachelor in on the bet so he can win the wager but most importantly be able to keep his deal with her mother to buy the property. Will they succeed? Will he succeed in marrying her off or will he fall head over heels?Ms. Lorret takes you into the transformation of Hedley from invisible to visible & will have you crying, laughing & screaming. Can't wait for the third book....The Maddening Lord Montwood!!!!

Great Writing By The Sassy Bookster With this installment of the Rakes of Fallow Hall series, Ms. Lorret went straight for the heartstrings!Hedley Sinclair has been invisible for most of her life, locked away in the attic of her parents’ home and treated poorly. An inheritance of a house from her grandfather has given her the independence and freedom she craves and even though the house is sorely in need of repairs, it’s all hers and a ticket to being in control of her life. Unless Rafe Danvers gets his way. Rafe has made no secret of the fact that he wants the house that once belonged to his family and he would do anything to get it back. Finding out that he had been played by a Sinclair again made him furious, especially because of his history with the Sinclairs.I enjoyed reading the first book in the series, The Elusive Lord Everhart but there was so much to love about The Devilish Mr. Danvers. The dialogue, the interactions and friendship among the group at Fallow Hall was fun to read. While Hedley was shunned by her family, Rafe’s family was shunned by society and he was abandoned by his socially conscious fiancee, who is Hedley’s sister. But while Rafe is intent on restoring honor to his family’s name, Hedley just wants to take charge of her life. Initially Rafe was annoying in his attempts to intimidate Headley and take ownership of the house, but her strength was attractive to him and he makes himself her protector when he hears her story. Hedley was a very lovable character, utterly lacking in guile and with an honest and unfiltered appreciation for new experiences. It was very satisfying seeing her grow from the scared woman in the beginning into a bold and spirited woman,Ms. Lorret has written a solid and interesting addition to her Rakes of Fallow Hall series with a strong woman whose past will have the reader wanting to step in and right the wrongs done to her and the one man who does. With an interesting cast of characters, The Devilish Mr. Danvers is a great read and I look forward to the next book in the series.*I received this book for free from the Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.*

All Puerto Rican recipes begin with "El Pilón". The name of the art piece on the cover of this book. Hence, a true Puerto Rican kitchen always has a pilón. El Pilón will bring you back to abuela's (grandma's) house where you might have observed her smashing ajo (garlic) and other herbs to make your favorite treat. Puerto Ricans when they visit the Caribbean also look for very decorative pilones to gift to their mothers, daughters, sisters and dear friends. You can not make traditional Puetro Rican dishes without El Pilón. El Pilón has brought me back to "Cooking and Telling Stories" about my growing up years next to mami, abuela and titi. Read through the stories and the recipes, cook from them and remenice with me and get your pilón to work. Yo quiero, arroz con gandulez con lechon y pastels pero que le hechen salsa

Based on the Duncan's videos, the recipes looked fine and they are the ones featured in the Kindle format. Unfortunately, the text is hardly readable. You cannot adjust the text sizes on Android. It is not compatible with Kindle for PC. For some strange reason, it could not be downloaded on Window 8.4. It was taking forever until the Kindle hung. No sample for review is available. So I ordered a copy but had to return and refund it. The Kindle copy just doesn't work.

I never forgot her. Not for one minute. Not from the last time I saw her, at seventeen, to today. I measured all women against her and all women came up short.   But being with her was unfeasible in high school, and it's taboo now.   I see her sometimes, but I've never spoken to her. She runs, or I run. We're in the same town, on the same block, in the same building, and the gulf between us is just too wide to cross.   Until tonight.   ----   He was my high school crush, back when I lived in a world that didn't want me. He was the perfect boy, and I was the outcast kid from the other side of town. And when he held my hand I thought I could fit in, just a little. I thought I could be his and he could be mine.   Then he left, and my life fell apart.   Now we are the king and queen of opposite sides of Hollywood.  And we haven't spoken a word to each other.   Until tonight.

    Shuttergirl, by CD Reiss

Review "Tender romance, smart writing. A total winner. Smart and romantic with characters you will root for until the end. I'm already looking forward to reading this book again. A story rich with tenderness and romance, written with the intelligence and wit that is all CD Reiss. I loved everything about Shuttergirl!" ―Mia Sheridan, bestselling author of the Sign of Love series"A confident, badass heroine and a swoon worthy, good guy find each other in CD Reiss's latest contemporary romance. It's a Hollywood affair with more colors of reality than fairytale, depicting an honest and endearing paparazzi meets movie star relationship that captures all the swoon and flutters of the best love stories. With strikingly beautiful prose and the contrasting gritty, vivid Los Angeles setting, Shuttergirl is Reiss's finest work yet." ―Laurelin Paige, author of the bestselling Fixed Trilogy"Engaging, sexy, and noteworthy, Shuttergirl is just another example of why CD Reiss is one of my go to authors. Her clean writing style, flawed but relatable characters, and well-crafted story make this book one that's hard to put down even after you read the last page." ―Kristy Bromberg, bestselling author of the Driven Trilogy"Rich with tenderness, romance and wit―I loved everything about it." ―Mia Sheridan, NY Times bestselling author of Archer's Voice"Forbidden yet sweet. Shuttergirl will make you believe that love has the power to break down all barriers. CD Reiss shows us her sweet side, but still manages to keep things sexy as hell." ―Claire Conteras, author of There Is No Light In Darkness"I went into Shuttergirl not knowing what magic CD Reiss had created. Instantly, I was swept away with perfect prose, incredible imagery, and a character connection I loved. In my mind, it was a perfect modern day fairy-tale where the loved and hated try to bridge the chasm of society's unwritten laws and listen to what they want, rather than what Hollywood tells them. It's the shit. Buy it." ―Pepper Winters, bestelling author of the Monsters in the Dark series

About the Author CD Reiss is a USA Today bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up, she's at the well, hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it gave her a big enough ego to try her hand at novels. She’ll tell you all about it in the back, where a cord of wood awaits. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

By Michelle New There is no question that I love Christine’s writing or that she is nestled comfortably in the list of my favorite authors. So going into Shuttergirl I knew that I’d get exceptional writing but this would be different from the erotic nature of the Songs of Series’ that preceded this release.Shuttergirl is a contemporary romance accompanied by a second chance love story that is set in Hollywood. Both sides of the city are revealed in this tale. The glamour, the blinding flash of the camera and the dirt beneath your fingernails. The shiny is flipped over and the tarnished underbelly is exposed as we meet Laine and Michael. Two sides to Hollywood. Two sides that feed off of each other – sides that rely on one another to survive in a city that is just waiting for the next big thing to take the next big fall. Hollywood. A place where the only thing greater than your success is your failure being captured.Laine, our heroine hasn’t lived the privileged life. Even while growing up with foster parents that were able to place in in the life of privilege, she was still on the outside looking in. Now although in the thick of things, she still stands behind a lens – watching the world from a distance.I adored the sides of Laine that we get. No doubt she had her strengths, but what I truly loved about her was that she had this vulnerability that did not make her weak. She was tough, she was a fighter and ultimately she knew how to survive.Michael came across as swoony as a hero can be. He was this nice guy living among sharks, able to keep them at bay and still remain unaffected by them. I loved that I was kept on my toes with him. I was always waiting for something to happen. For the perfect to be fractured. And yeah, there is a time when Michael does have me banging my head against the wall; but at the same time I had absolute faith in him.Being that this is a contemporary romance, be prepared for sweet. That is what this genre delivers. There is some steamy scenes, but understand that you aren’t going to have this punishing dominant male that is claiming his woman – you get the soft, the sweet – the down-right-weak-in-the-knees moments. I think having had read this and having time to think about this story, I can honestly say that this author can do no wrong. I loved that we got the same unique style of writing we expect from this author – the ability to bend words to her will. To paint a scene in such a way that just blows you away.In the end this book allowed me as a reader to escape for a few hours. To let the world fall away, to remove the frown and the stress of real life and find this alternative reality within these pages. A place where happily ever after exists. Where the hero always gets the girl and where love does truly conquer all. And although the Songs of Series will always hold a special place in my heart and I will never stop wanting more of the Drazens, but I want to see what this author can do. I want to watch her expand her comfort zone. I want to see her take us from punishments to intimate embraces.Shuttergirl was exceptionally written. It was a love story set in the land of possibilities, cloaked in the glitz of Hollywood, captured one frame at a time. This is a must read for 2015.

33 of 38 people found the following review helpful. When Hollywood Silver Spoons Dates TMZ By Gail H 3.5 stars. ****This review may contain spoilers***** Shuttergirl is one of the most recent Hollywood stories that I've read, and I believe the first time that I've read CD Reiss. This review was a tough one to write, because there were times that the story was more than 3.5 stars. Let me start from the beginning, the author put a different spin on this Hollywood story, Laine is a successful member of the Hollywood paparazzi , she's one of the best, and Michael is a successful actor, the son of film royalty. So I was expecting Laine and Michael to be sworn enemies considering their career choices, but what's surprising is that the author made them more frenemies in the beginning than adversaries. They are both respectful to each other and careful not to cross any lines. I like that Laine is written with integrity, yet strong, and Michael is not the douche-bag actor that I expected. They have a history together from their teenage years, and just as they are about to embark on reacquainting and exploring more, the reader finds out that Laine also has some dark secrets from her past. Laine's profession and life has been about photographing and selling the secrets and lifestyles of celebrities, but once the tabloids discover that Laine is the new love interest of a Hollywood hunk, Laine goes from being the hunter to the hunted. And like *click* any other *click* celebrity, once Laine achieves *click* certain recognition *click*, those little dark secrets *click* come back to bite her on the butt. This is where the story goes from 55 mph to 100 mph, it becomes more enthralling, because that secret has the ability to wreck her future or ruin his career. But soon afterwards, the people who have threatened to expose the secret are dealt with, and the situation is no longer a threat. I needed more to come from the secret, I wanted more interaction between Laine, Jake, and Michael. I wanted a showdown at the O.K. Corral. Now there is fallout from the secret, but it's more cherry bombs instead of the potential Roman candle explosions. After the secrets of Laine's past are handled, she and Michael have to decide whether the relationship is worth losing their careers and reputations. The story loses some of its momentum towards the end.I like that the author gave the reader two mature adults, instead of a crying self-doubting female and a self-absorbed actor. I also like that Reiss made Laine strong enough to acknowledge and deal with her past, and Michael is kind enough to be sympathetic and understanding. Although this story wasn't a five star read for me, it was still entertaining, and I wouldn't hesitate reading another book by CD Reiss.

19 of 23 people found the following review helpful. Arc provided by the author for an honest review By silvia When I read the first paragraph, no, scratch that, when I read the first sentence, I knew CD Reiss claimed me as her own once again. "From the ports of San Pedro to the base of the Angeles National Forest, from SantaMonica Beach to the trench we call a river, I own this city."CD Reiss owns this city. She took me on a ride through alley ways, on freeways, twisting through canyons, bar hopping through clubs and more, with all the glitz, glamour, and grit of LA. The paparazzi was chasing us in hot pursuit. And it all led to Shuttergirl!Shuttergirl is a second chance love story of former high school classmates, Laine and Michael, whose lives couldn't be more opposite. How they met the first time and what brought them back together ten years later, is truly a story straight out of Hollywood.Laine, Shuttergirl, was a product of several foster homes, the good, the negligent, and the unbelievably horrendous. She dropped out of high school and with her talent behind a lens, she became a member of the LA's rabid paparazzi.Michael was the child of Hollywood royalty, and became an actor in his own right but unlike so many others in his profession, he was able to keep himself isolated from all the Hollywood drama. So when Michael gets caught in Laine's crosshairs, the lines become blurred between predator and prey. Their love story resumes and I got swept up in it but then secrets from the past starts rearing its head. I found myself cheering for their love to survive as I looked down on them from the bleachers. I found myself taking sides, first for Laine, then for Michael. I found myself praying to the author! I know, I know, it's strange but true!In other words, I was captivated and I hung on every word! So grab this book and read it, experience it, live it.CD Reiss captures the feel of LA better than any author I've read hands down and makes this city and her characters come alive for me. I want to thank her for gifting me with this arc. I'm giving her, her writing, and this book, 5 stars.

This book was written passionately with easy-to-understand instructions of how to make Bento, enclosed with cutest cartoon characters images. Even when the kids can’t read, they can still figure out how to do it with a little help from adults. I’m sure that your family atmosphere will be much warmer and much more enjoyable when making bento together. And what would make us happier than when we can see our kids accomplish their creations.
