George Ever thought about being a coach, but were a little nervous because you weren't quite sure what to do? Are you an existing coach looking to add some new activities to spice up your practices? This is a great resource for anyone coaching or thinking of coaching at this age level. Everything you need to improve your players' core skills, manage your practices, and manage your season is right here. Plenty of fresh activities to give your players lots of touches on the ball and develop their skills, all while having a lot of fun doing it. I wish I had had this book my first season as a coach!

After searching Google and Youtube for help with this sport I am happy I came across Paul's Book By soccer dad As a former athlete that spent most of his time in the water, having my children decide to play soccer has created quite the dilemma. After searching Google and Youtube for help with this sport I am happy I came across Paul's Book. It is extremely easy to read and i love that he has provided many many specific drills i can use for my practices. Helping as a volunteer in the Upward sports program, I really like that the book focuses on player developement and is not focussed on winning at age 6. His book should be a included in the upward sports coaches packet!

So what to do when your local sports organization needs a soccer coach for your kids' team? Let me tell you, drop 3 bucks for this book/download. You don't have to be a pro at this level, but this book will help with fun and fundamentals.

Revenge and murder define Ximena Godoy’s story. Her lifetime spans the first half of the 20th century, a transformative time of revolution, economic depression, uprooting and migration. During that time, she witnesses and participates in an era of revolution, bootlegging, dance halls, as well as evolving rules that determine women’s lives in both Mexico and America. Never a traditional or conventional woman, Ximena Godoy shatters rules that govern her Mexican heritage, and even those of a wider world. Her story portrays an ever-changing woman who morphs from sheltered child into a complex, deeply flawed human being, passionate and independent, quick to love unconditionally, but just as ready to cling obsessively to revenge, a flaw that leads her into the murky world of murder and criminal justice. By Amazon Customer Limón's latest work is the compelling story of Ximena Godoy, a strong, wilful, ambitious and passionate woman way ahead of her times. The novel begins in 1950 Los Angeles with a murder, then moves back to 1908 Guadalajara when Ximena was a wealthy, beautiful, precocious girl of nine - already capturing the eyes of older men - who wants to join the revolution, to 1920's-30's Juarez's Great Depression before sweeping back full circle to 1950 L.A.Tragedy and violence seem to surround Ximena like a curse, and from her choice of men to the way she impulsively follows her heart, she fluctuates from ecstatic happiness to unbearable anguish. In an era when proper women were "like a glass of finest crystal that will always show the slightest sign of being handled," Ximena rises above the rest - and pays the full price. The author uses the omniscient point of view, so the reader is able to glimpse into all the characters' psyches. Limón's prose is beautiful and forceful, flowing like the blood of the revolutionaries. Love, passion, regret, treason, and revenge are the main themes explored in the story. With her many flaws, Ximena is a protagonist that will be loved by some, yet hated by others. One thing is for sure: no reader will remain impartial to her powerful personality. The historical details bring the story to life with vivid sharpness, and the author culminates the story with a thoroughly satisfying ending.

If asked, I can not describe any of the characters. The main character, Ximena Godoy had not a single redeeming quality and in the end she was her father's daughter, self entitled and arrogant. From the point she betrayed her first lover El Indio to the end she held others to a higher standard than she did herself. She abandoned her daughter and when she came back for her 7 years later, the daughter was dead. There was no description of how the daughter died.... was she sick, did a wolf eat her, nothing and there is precious little of 50s Los Angeles, no bootlegging as Mexico did not have prohibition so the blurb on the back cover of the book itself was an over sell. The end was quick and incongruous. As it is, it would be a suitable outline for what could have been a great novel. The Mexican revolution, the 20s, the ex pat community in Mexico hiding out from Franco....Los Angeles in the 50s, club life but the book falls flat and ultimately fails.

By Amazon Customer Graciela Limon's books always transport the reader to other people's world's and their life experience. Set in the days prior to the Mexican Revolution, we follow Ximena's life path through its highs and lows. Ximena was a fighter and a survivor of revolution, abandonment, and various careers and loves, that peaked and crashed! Through her we explore the universal story of women whose love of a man lead them on paths they could never imagine traveling until they were set in motion. Ximena was not a passive participant, but rather a woman of strong desires, making choices that involved great risk and danger. Without giving the story away, the reader will experience the passion of love, and the pits of betrayal Ximena encounters throughout various phases of life. We also experience her mistakes, and live with her, the consequences of those flawed choices. And as I write this, what I truly wanted to say is that Ximena represents the life of those of us who have lived long enough to see the patterns in our own lives, and have learned from both the good and bad decisions. Ximena's story reminds me that we can never judge another, for just as Ximena was making her best effort to survive a life that had unpredictable challenges, aren't we all faced with the same challenge? Ximena's courage sustained her through all this. She never gave up! She stands as the flawed heroine, reminding us that the heroic life is also a life filled with flaws, pain and tragedy.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. not what I expected, but still a good cookbook By T. Donovan When I ordered this, I expected more traditional Egyptian recipes, perhaps streamlined for a more modern kitchen. I did not realize that the author owns a set of cafes where I ate sometimes in Cairo, and also opened a restaurant that I read about online but never had a chance to visit. So it seems that many of these recipes are dishes that she developed herself.Nevertheless, I have tried some of the recipes from this book and have enjoyed them enormously. There is a Cauliflower Salad that is heavenly and the soups are out of this world, especially the Koshari Soup. I like the little regional touches here and there, like Alexandria-Style Koshari. Her version of Alexandria-style Liver is the best from the many cookbooks I have tried.I really enjoy this cookbook because except for a few items like fava beans, it is possible to cook these recipes without a trip to a Middle Eastern grocer and without an investment in high-dollar ingredients. I have always liked Egyptian cuisine because of its creativity and ability to do such great things with humble ingredients. The author is definitely following in these footsteps and I admire her creativity. I wish that I had had this book when I was living in Egypt. I will be using this book a lot.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Cook the Real Deal Egyptian By nomadsheart Great book on truly Egyptian food made with pantry items you can find here. Recipes are direct and straight forward and I have been pleased with results. I share the book with an Egyptian friend who remarked that the recipes were quite authentic and even noted the regionality of some recipes (this is how koshery is made in Cairo or Alexandria for example). It should be noted that Egyotian cuisine is neither a Lebanese derivative nor North African, like Moroccan. I am glad to see someone publish a quite nice book o the topic.

Morgan’s voice is vigorous and exact, opening doors for the reader, finding unexpected images and connections. The poems reach beyond surfaces, to the strange forces inside atoms, our genes, our heritage, and outward to the farthest movements of galaxies, the dark energy we cannot explain but recognize in our bones and blood, in our deepest memories and imagination.

Big Talk

When mountains boomed and boomed again

returning echoes all along

the chain, the Indians said the peaks

were talking to each other in

the idiom that mountains use

across the mighty distances,

with giant syllables and rests.

White hunters feared it might be guns

or even cannon natives had

somehow acquired to warn them from

the better hunting grounds and streams,

the blasts as loud as thunder on

the clearest days and coldest nights.

Geologists would later hold

the groans and barks inside the ridge

were shelves of massive, restless rock

that slipped or dropped far down within

the mountain’s guts, a fracture or

a crashing at some fault as part

of the tectonic conversation

among the continents as old

as planet earth or starry birth,

the gossip of creation’s work.

Big Bone Lick

At Big Bone Lick the first explorers

found skeletons of elephants they said,

found ribs of woolly mammoths,

tusks of mastodons and ribs of sloths

that lurched across Kentucky once

near twenty feet from snout to tail.

They dug out teeth the size of bricks

and skulls of giant bison, beavers.

In salty mud licked bare by elk

and deer and buffalo and bears

for ten millennia, the bones

seemed wreckage from a mighty dream,

a graveyard from a golden age,

or killing ground of titans. Here

they saw the ruins of a world

survived by its diminutives,

where Eden once gave way and shrank

to just a regular promised land

to fit our deadly, human scale.

Jaguar

Where Lawson, Bartram, others wrote

they saw a “tiger” in the hills

and woods of Carolina I

assumed they meant a panther or

a bobcat, never guessed there were

Seth Morgan's frenzied, addictive walk on the wild side of 1980s San Francisco When strip-joint barker Joe Speaker unwittingly steals a sixty-nine-carat blue diamond, he becomes enmeshed in a blackmail-and-murder conspiracy that begins with the savage slaying of high-priced call girl Gloria Monday. Suddenly Joe's a wanted man. Hunted by a murderous pimp known as Baby Jewels Moses and a relentless homicide cop named Tarzon, Joe ends up taking the rap and getting sentenced to three years. But it's in prison that the real trouble begins. An adrenaline-pumped, hallucinogenic descent into the lower depths, Homeboy is a tough, eye-opening look at San Francisco during the AIDS epidemic. Part memoir and part richly conceived work of imagination, this gritty, rambunctious novel reads like pure poetry and celebrates an uncommon talent at the height of his storytelling powers.

Homeboy: A Novel, by Seth Morgan

From Publishers Weekly Joe Speaker, a junkie and barker at a San Francisco strip joint, finds a 69-carat blue diamond that involves him in a murder/blackmail deal and lands him in jail. ``Overall the novel and its sad look at prison life are marred by a highly derivative thriller plot, with characters . . . all tending to talk the same combination of hipster slang and B-movie cliches,'' said PW.

Copyright 1991 Cahners Business Information, Inc.

From Library Journal When Joe Speaker, barker for a San Francisco strip joint, pulls off a caper inadvertently involving a precious diamond necklace, he incurs the wrath of porno king Baby Jewels and the interest of Detective Tarzon. Joe is sent to prison, where he breaks a drug habit and survives by his wits. Meanwhile, on the outside, Baby Jewels is maneuvering; Joe's girl friend is shacked up and pregnant; and various people are plotting, acting, and reacting. There is a dazzling vitality to this first novel. The language is raw; the characters are fresh and outrageous; the style is wicked and impudent. And in the dramatization of good versus evil (and the difficulty of sometimes telling the difference), the author succeeds in providing substance. Though not for readers looking for a standard thriller, this offbeat novel is outstanding and certain to be talked about. (Note: The title refers to prison slang for buddy. )-- Robert E. Donahugh, formerly with Youngstown & Mahoning Cty. P.L., OhioCopyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.

By Tim Johnson I'm not normally a fiction reader but even though "Homeboy" was copywrited in 1990 I ordered and read it because I came across a recent reference to the novel that indicated it was about San Francisco. Oh yes-it was about The City and although I had lived there many years ago and could still recognize the street names and neigborhoods that was the extent of my recognition. Seth Morgan penetrates the belly of the beast to an extent that his San Francisco and later California, might just as well be on the dark side of the moon in terms of it's familiarity to what I knew of SF.I know little about fiction writing but I can say that Morgan organized Homeboy differently than the other fiction works I've read. He has divided Homeboy into short little mini-chapters like many contemporary TV shows-stories built around a particular theme but broken into disparate separate dramas that weave in and out of each other. You must be aware because these mini-chapters dissolve and reform in new settings and at different times and because the book is so dense be prepared for a demanding ride. This ride is bleak and uncompromising-you will be confronted by situations and activities that I, as a neophyte crime reader, had never been confronted with before. For instance, the section titled Fence Parole is as hard a piece of writing as you might find or the scene played out in Hotshot-tough stuff for a little suburban guy like me.If you like well writen books that deal with hard subjects then Homeboy is for you-seek it out because it will be worth your time.

My first copy I loaned to an inmate while working as a prison counselor. The guy made parole and took the book. Oh well. I found a copy again in a book store and thinking I learned my lesson, loaned it to a co-worker (now a probation officer). Again, the book did not come back. I've recommended it to so many people and have decided to try again. It's really a great description of an entirely different lifestyle. An enlightening description of "life on the edge".

Wretched and Brilliant By R. douglas Seth Morgans first and last completed novel is a simultaneously brilliant and uneasy read that like an addiction, first captivates then unravels itself until the reader is rendered helpless to its grimy power. His story begins deep in the gut of a seedy San Francisco underbelly and ends up ensconsed in the heart of a prison hell. As the story unravels, we are introduced to a smorgasbord of whacked out, grimy, and tragic characters whos' tales gather around us to weave a web of terrifyingly real and sometimes disarmingly surreal situations. The story of 'Homeboy', if it is broken down to its core, is surprisingly simple, but it is told in a way that demands the reader to concentrate. Like the first minutes in a subtitled movie, we are forced to think hard about what we are reading. But the beauty in 'Homeboy' lies not in the story, but the unbelievable use of the English language. His descriptions of seemingly simple places, people and events are described using words that a terrestrial author would never dream of using. And yet these descriptions paint a picture of incredible detail, you can almost physically smell the stench of wretched human lives steaming out between the cracks of Coldwater Prison and feel the warm chill of heroin as it is pumped through the brittle veins of 'Rings n Things'.The fact that we will never have the honour of another complete book by Seth Morgan is tragic. But unlike Jeff Buckley and countless other gifted artists taken from us before their time, Seth's death seems somehow apt and befits the legacy of what he has left us described within the well thumbed pages of 'Homeboy'.

Being from the south, I always know "true Southern" when I see it. The cookbook includes recipes I haven't had in years... old traditional ones like Boompa's Homemade Ice Cream... YUM! If you're a Southern seafood lover then the Crab Bisque is to die for! And no Southern Recipe cookbook would be complete without an authentic Peach Cobbler and I'd say this recipe certainly rivals my grandfather's. The stories that go with each recipe makes this book an enjoyable read as well. As far as cooking, you don't have to a chef to understand the recipes...or be from the South to enjoy them ;-)). Anyone who can read and follow basic directions can cook from this cookbook. It's 100% Old South and worth trying. And for the price... FREE (for now) ... why not try some of the recipes yourself... no better collection of the "real" stuff the South is made of out there.

I no longer live there and miss the wonderful and distinctive food there so much. I didn't learn to cook quite everything while growing up so have been looking for some good southern recipe books to bring back the magic and this is the best one that I have found. Jacqueline Ballard's "The Secret Recipes: Classic Southern Cooking" has some simply amazing southern recipes that are both well-explained and easy to prepare. We have been feasting on such dishes as the Down South Homemade Chili, Buttermilk Pie, and The Original Angel Biscuits. As an added bonus for me, I love pralines and have always grabbed one at the Mexican restaurants that have them at the register. I've tried to make pralines before but they always turned out in a gooey mess. Not that they weren't good, but making pralines is nearly as impossible as making tamales at home. When I saw the explanation in the praline recipe here, I finally understood how to make them and where mine have been going wrong. Love this book.
