About the Author SAMUEL MONSOUR is a chef, writer, and food activist. He is the co-creator of the nationally renowned pop-up series The Future of Junk Food and has appeared on several reality cooking television shows. A third generation chef and graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Samuel has won numerous awards for his food, including Best Burger by Boston Magazine. He is a hardcore East Coaster (Boston, Raleigh, New York) but currently resides in sundrenched Los Angeles with his wife Astrid and cat Bruno. RICHARD CHUDY is a chef, food writer, cooking instructor, and co-owner of the personal chef and catering company The Skinny Beet with his wife Katie. He is the creator of Boston Burger Blog, which chronicles his ongoing quest to find the best burger in Boston and beyond. He co-hosts the podcast The Skinny Beet Dinner Party and his work has been featured in Boston Magazine, Food Republic, The Boston Globe, and NPR. A graduate of the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, Richard lives in Belmont, MA.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. American Burger Cooktzpah By Michael S Robertson Chefs Chudy and Monsour take the humble hamburger to places it's never been with this cookbook. First of all, they start with burger basics, going through many different blend options and what to get if you're going with store-bought ground beef. They don't just say "don't buy pre-made patties," they explain what about them makes them bad options compared to getting the ground beef and forming your own patties. Plus, when you do that you get to use one of their wet seasoning blends, which are pretty fantastic. We started off with the Southeast Peppercorn Ranch seasoning blend, which gives the beef a tangy kick of acid that I really loved. All along the way the book delivers a mix of grill-honed expertise, humor, and practical wisdom. It also gives you an excuse, should you need one, to ensure you have a cold, adult beverage in hand while cooking. For example, the "White Trash Chevre" recipe mandates beer drinking as step one. The absolute first thing you should make is the Vidalia Jam, which is super-simple to make, but super-tasty as well, and pretty much goes with everything. In fact, to test that, we paired it with the aforementioned White Trash Chevre, with a side of Magic Rings (onion rings) and I couldn't have been happier with the result. The moral of this story is: Buying American Burger Revival will lead to you making delicious burgers, burger toppings, and sides for burgers.

By michael d betts Like most cooks, I like books that are either beautiful or spike my interest to get in the kitchen/on the grill...American Burger Revival does both!Make room on your cookbook shelf cuz this book is not just how to cook burgers. It does that along with creating new classic burgers, recreating some old favorites....but there are plenty of other cool and delicious recipe ideas here that you can reach for again and again. Try these staples: IPA Sesame Seed Buns (pg. 38) - Smoked Heirloom Tomatoes (pg. 102) and my personal favorites, Fried Ketchup (pg. 124) & a version of homemade Worchestershire Sauce (pg. 145)! Go get your copy and blow away your BBQ guests!
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Love it! By Mark Stein Even if you're like me and have a ton of cookbooks, buy this book. Nothing pretentious here. No crazy ingredients you'll never be able to find. Just a fun, clear, beautifully photographed book put together by 2 guys that obviously had a blast working on this project, are crazy passionate about burgers and everything that stems from burgers. They get into sauces, condiments, bread, etc; so even if you're not psycho about burgers, you'll find plenty here for you. I have already post-it-noted about 20 pages where I found stuff I'm going to try this summer.
