The best part? You don't have to eliminate food on the Daily Greens cleanse. Daily Greens juices contain easy to follow recipes that include up to 6 pounds of raw produce cold-pressed into each bottle. Each juice is the equivalent of 9 servings of fresh vegetables and fruits. They are naturally low-calorie because less than 10% fruit is used so you don't spike sugar levels. No water, sugar, or preservatives are added. The juices are naturally vegan, naturally gluten-free, naturally dairy- and soy-free, non-GMO project certified, and absolutely delicious.

About the Author
At the age of 33, Shauna R. Martin was diagnosed with breast cancer. With a very young family to care for, Shauna had an extremely difficult time recovering from multiple surgeries and chemotherapy. The effect on her body was toxic, and she began eating raw fruits and vegetables and drinking a green juice every single day to promote her health and well-being. Eight years later, Shauna is still cancer-free, and she credits her recovery from breast cancer, in part, to her current healthy lifestyle which includes a regiment of drinking green juice every day. Shauna started Pink Ribbon Cowgirls for young cancer survivors, and a portion of Daily Greens sales are set aside to grant funding to groups that support young women with cancer. She started her company, Daily Greens, in 2012, and her juice line can be found in Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, and health food stores all across the country.
Mayim Hoya Bialik is best known for her lead role as Blossom Russo in the early-1990s NBC television sitcom Blossom. She currently plays the role of Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory, a role for which she has received 3 consecutive Emmy nominations. After Blossom, Bialik took a break from acting to earn a BS and PhD in Neuroscience from UCLA. She is the author of Beyond the Sling (2012) and Mayim's Vegan Table (2014).

By Tessa This is a very attractive hard cover book filled with recipes for juices, smoothies, soups and salads. There is a brief introductory chapter narrating the author's experience recovering from breast cancer and regaining health, which she largely attributes to her green juice regimen. But this is essentially a recipe book. I got a lot of new ideas and found the recipes very useful, if a bit repetitive. I am really glad to have this book as a reference. However, I do think you can find many recipes for green and other juices, smoothes, soups etc online so it is a luxury to have a book dedicated to this.A couple of other observations: the author says she has tried many juicers and prefers the Breville Juice Fountain. I have this product. This is not a review for the Breville Juice Fountain, but I will just comment that, while I agree with the author that the Breville is a great solid machine that makes juicing easy, even fun, it is also a big heavy unit --- it is either going to take up a lot of space on your counter or be a very heavy item to store away and take out every time you use it. Also, it does come apart easily for cleaning, but the mesh strainer requires several minutes of careful scrubbing every time you use it. It is not a trivial clean up job. Also, the focus of the book is on green -- kale, spinach, celery, cucumbers -- which I accept, but I do think that a more balanced approach would be welcome. There are four recipes that use carrots but the author states that carrots contain a lot of sugar and so she doesn't use them that much. No mention of beets at all. So, "Daily Greens" is great as far as it goes, but it does not really offer complete coverage of the array of nutritious produce that you can use for juices and smoothies. All in all, a very pleasing and useful compendium of recipes, but with a few caveats.

Pros: All but one of the recipes tasted good, I lost 6 pounds, and my skin looks better. Cons: The cost to do the cleanse (about $200 not including the book) and the prep time. I was glad to not be working during the cleanse, as the time it takes to prepare and eat everything is extensive. It did get shorter as the days progressed and I got faster going through the process. I still recommend if you work to do a lot of prepping at once and the night before and do part of the cleanse over a weekend. I did the summer cleanse.PreparationThe Groceries:I bought most of the list from a local store. It’s cheapest, and I figure that is the type of store to which most people that read this review will have access. You should have seen me trying to find everything. I think I spent over an hour in the fruit, herb, and veggie section. To minimize the cost I did not buy organic. I already had mint and basil in my garden. My grocery bill was $114 for the herbs, nuts, fruit, and veggies! I found everything except three items – Chia Seeds, Coconut Nectar, and Nutritional Yeast (yes as I learned different than regular yeast). I went to Trader Joes and found the Chia Seeds ($5). They did not have the nectar, and I forgot to ask about the yeast. The next day I got smart and called ahead to see if Whole Foods has other 2 items. Score! They have everything. I got the Coconut Nectar (Coconut Secret Organic Raw Coconut Nectar for $12!). Then, I got distracted with going to Whole Foods for the first time and forgot the nutritional yeast again. I guess it was not meant to be. You only use it once, so it was more cost effective for me to eat nuts for the protein any way. Amazon also has those 3 things, if you plan ahead (unlike me).The Juicer:I did something I don’t usually do when trying something new. I did not read the book before I bought the groceries. I assumed that the cleanse was based on smoothies like a competitor. I have a blender, so I thought I just needed the groceries and would be ready to go. So, imagine my surprise when I read the book the night before Day 1 and realized I needed a juicer. Of course, this was after all the stores were closed. I read Amazon’s reviews and decided on Hamilton Beach’s Big Mouth Juice Extractor. It is the best juicer for the lowest cost. I could not wait the two days of shipping as the groceries could wilt or get overripe, and I had a deadline for an event for which I wanted to be able to eat regular food. So Day 1 morning I went to Target and Whole Foods. The juicer is cheaper on Amazon for some colors. I paid $65. If you don’t want to buy a juicer, you can buy a 4 day cleanse on the author’s website. It’s cheaper ($75), if you don’t plan to continue to juice in the future.Day 1:Each day you drink lemon water and green tea in the morning, have a morning juice, a lunch juice, a snack juice, and a dinner. Due to buying the juicer and those elusive items from Whole Foods on the other side of town, I did not actually start the cleanse until noon. To keep my metabolism running and my hunger down, I drank juice or ate about every 2-3 hours every day. I did this by breaking down dinner into three parts. It’s already two meals, and one each day of the cleanse is so dense and plentiful it’s easy to split into two parts. For example, I split Day 1’s guacamole and raw veggies in half. I had morning juice at noon. I had lunch juice at 2 pm. I had snack juice at 4 PM. I had the guacamole and raw veggies dinner at 5 and 7 and the cherry tomato and avocado salad at 9 PM. I love guacamole, but know some people don’t. I think if someone has never had good fresh guac, it can seem yucky. I would give it a try with this recipe. All the juices on this day tasted good. It took over thirty minutes to prep the fruit and veggies, juice, and clean the juicer. I drank green tea three times a day (morning, lunch, and dinner) every day. I did not exercise this day. The author says go easy on the exercise during the cleanse.Day 2:I weighed myself and lost a pound. Go me! I drank the lemon water and green tea at 9 AM. I had morning juice at 10 AM. At this point is when I remembered my idea to use the pulp from juicing for soups and popsicles. So for this and all other days I combined the pulp from the morning juice and a little store bought organic juice for popsicles. I froze the pulp from lunch and snack for soups. I had lunch juice at noon. I walked my dog at a fast pace for an hour for exercise. I had snack juice at 2 PM. I split the summer coleslaw meal into several parts (it was that much to eat). I ate a little and then rested, and ate a little and rested, and repeat. Most of it took place between 3:30-5:30 PM. I taught that night, so I had the rest of the coleslaw and watermelon and cucumber salad on my 2 breaks.Day 3:I weighed myself and lost 2 pounds. I drank the lemon water and green tea at 9 AM. I had morning juice at 10 AM. I had lunch juice at noon. I walked my dog at a fast pace for an hour for exercise. Be careful when adding ginger to the lunch juice. This is when I had my first bad experience. Ginger is a “superfood, so important. However, I have decided I rather eat it separately raw like I’m taking medicine than ruin the juice by putting too much in it like I did that day. Oh how it burned and overpowered the taste! I had snack juice at 2 PM. This is when I read the fine print and realized I could have solid food with my juices, if I was a little more hungry, which I was that day. So I had some cantaloupe. I split dinner into three parts. This is when I had my second bad experience – the gazpacho soup. I’ve had this soup before with a different recipe and like it. So I had no idea what I was in for. Please, please be careful with the onion! The author recommends half of a white one. It was horrible. I couldn’t drink but a third down, and threw away the rest (I hate to waste food but this was bad). It should be red from the tomatoes, but it was yellow/white from the onion. I recommend blending all the other ingredients as the recipe recommends, and then add the onion layer by layer into the blender to an acceptable taste. I recommend using ¼ the onion at most. The Vegan Caesar Salad made up for that fiasco. This is when you use the most expensive item – that coconut nectar. You blend it with the cashews to make a delicious dressing. I had some watermelon to make up for the soup. I had a pulp and juice popsicle for dessert (not part of the cleanse, but I think within the rules).Day 4:I weighed myself and lost 2 pounds. I drank the lemon water and green tea at 9 AM. I had morning juice at 10 AM. I had lunch juice at noon. I felt too tired to walk the dog. It’s the only day I felt like the low calories from the cleanse was catching up to me…until snack juice at 2 PM. Dandelion Greens are my new best friend – better than caffeine. After I had that juice it’s like someone shot me with pure energy. I still didn’t walk the dog, but at least I didn’t feel drained any longer. I split the kale salad into 2 parts and ate at 4 and 6 PM. I had the romaine lettuce wraps at 7 Pm. I had some honeydew for dessert at 8 PM.Day 5 (Post Cleanse):I weighed myself and lost 1 pound. I think it was due to no exercise the day before. However, you don’t want to lose too much weight too fast, or it can bounce back like a yo-yo. I think to get the best results, exercise a little so your body doesn’t think you are going into starvation mode, but not so much you make yourself weak. I drank the lemon water and green tea at 9 AM. I had morning juice at 10 AM. I had a turkey sandwich on wheat, organic tomato soup with pulp from my morning juice, and carrots for lunch at noon. I had honeydew for a snack at 2 Pm. I had a chicken breast, quinoa, and broccoli for dinner at 6 PM. I had a pulp and juice popsicle for dessert. This is the post cleanse pattern I have kept up - I always juice in the morning and eat sensibly the rest of the day. I did eat out at a restaurant and have a piece of cake for my Dad’s birthday (the event for which I wanted to eat solid foods) since the cleanse ended. I have kept off the weight, and will hopefully lose more.I definitely recommend trying Daily Greens.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. greens & other earthly goodies By Leah Chang I'm delighted I decided to read the book description and a couple of reviews before deciding this book wasn't for me, which almost happened because of the "Daily Greens 4-Day Cleanse" title. I've heard of various fasts and cleansings, but never undertaken either, but then when I realized author Shauna Martin included recipes for smoothies, salads, and a few other dishes, I figured Daily Greens would be useful and helpful in any case. I especially appreciate the first part of the book where Shauna (whose diet is completely plant-based) explains some of the rationale behind cleansings and fasts. Interesting stuff, as are her lively descriptions of various mostly green super-foods such as the currently super-popular kale, the eternally green fave spinach, (not really green) ginger root, watercress, dandelion greens, cilantro, etc. This is about wisely eating seasonally, which means expending fewer $$$ while enjoying better tasting, more local, frequently organic, healthier fruits and veggies. All the recipes are simple, which adds to the book's appeal and utility. There also are several categorized shopping lists and an index.A lot of the full-color photography, the text, and page design conveys a verdant, green, growing, and alive sensibility! Besides greens of differing hues and intensities in the layout and design, some of the backgrounds are a lovely, appealing cantaloupe color. Gorgeous full-page photos, lovely smaller pics, too. As a graphic artist-designer and as a reader, I appreciate the open layout of the pages with lots of literal "white space" so it's not cluttered like a pennysaver ad. I also like that the hardbound book stays open on its own. However, as interesting and almost essential as the descriptions and commentary are, given that recipes are the main thing, why not format ingredients and how-to instructions in a larger font that's easy for anyone to read? Even the introductory text to each recipe is in larger type than the recipes themselves!Despite those reservations, I'm happy to own a copy of Daily Greens, with so many literally good enough to eat photographs, and especially knowing the recipes and ideas will entice me to shop and try some of Shauna Martin's smoothies and other creations.
