Sarah Booth Delaney is heartbroken: her fiancé Graf Milieu has decided to move to Hollywood permanently, leaving their relationship in shambles. Sarah Booth has a perfect distraction, however, in the form of the Black and Orange Halloween ball her best friends are throwing in New Orleans. Sarah Booth plans to dance the night away to the swinging tunes of her old flame Scott Hampton's blues band. But just as the party gets going, Scott receives a mysterious message that threatens his life and the lives of his bandmates. Sarah Booth knows that a new case is just what she needs to take her mind off her failed relationship with Graf, and she's ready to help Scott investigate. And then the message turns from threat to reality when the bartender from Scott's club is gunned down in a drive-by. Enlisting Sheriff Coleman Peters and the rest of her friends from Zinnia, Mississippi, Sarah Booth is caught in a race against the clock as she tries to stop a killer from striking again.
With a twist around every corner, Sarah Booth's zany adventures will delight readers in Carolyn Haines's latest Southern cozy, Bone to Be Wild.

By MarieM If the reader is only familiar with Author Haines from her Bones serious, they will certainly love this book for what it is; a well-plotted and suspenseful mystery with outstanding character development, foreshadowing and plotting, with humor and romance sprinkled in. It is a delightful read. But those of us who have been following this author through her career and have experienced; Revenant, Judas Burning, Fever Moon, Penumbra, and more, understand how complex Haines' work actually is, and can enjoy it even more.Haines is a story-teller in the best sense of that term. Her stories unfurl as the plot progresses and her subplots are excellent. While it is interesting to see Sarah Booth as a detective on the go, it is more fun to see how Haines uses her protagonist to display the modern and past Southern culture. Character Jitty always provides the backdrop in context. In fact, the foreshadowing from Jitty always makes the entire book in my opinion. In this book the story unwinds against the backdrop of the protagonist having lost a long-term love. But it is less a book about relationships and more a book about connections. How the character and her partner Tinkie are connected to the town and culture, gender and ethnic challenges, and their connections in a complex web of allies and enemies in their Delta town, is the meat of the story. Haines ALWAYS ties up the loose ends and nestles each new novel into the culture she has created and that we know and love. And this takes place against a wonderfully enjoyable musicology lesson of the Mississippi Delta Blues scene. I have spent considerable time in Clarksdale at the Junction, and Haines nails the area and the pervasive overlay of the past onto the present like the master writer she is.Read Bone to Be Wild anyway you want to read it; throw it in a beach bag or picnic basket, use a notepad the track the connections, read it as a romantic or animal lover (shout out to wonderful Pluto), BUT JUST READ IT!Excellent book in an excellent serious, wonderfully crafted and hugely entertaining.

I love the way Sarah Booth's friends rally around with love and support, and can identify with their feelings of helplessness as she hurts. Been there, done that! I am beyond excited for CeeCee; holding my breath as she finally loves and is loved back. I ache for Coleman, cheer for Harold, and have not decided about Scott. I giggle at Tinkie and hurt for Jitty. In other words, through this book, I reconnect with friends. I'm home again, surrounded by people I love. What a great feeling!

Great writing and well edited, funny loveable characters, and well plotted interesting story lines. That being the case this series will be around for a loooooong time.Sarah Booth, Tinkie and friends (Coleman, Harold, Cece, and the ever loveable Roscoe) are back home in Zinnia, Mississippi at Dahlia House. Scott Hampton, world famous blues musician, is back and the owner of Playin' the Bones, the premier blues club in Sunflower County. Gertrude made bail (!!) and is still cray cray and hates Sarah Booth with a passion.Someone wants to destroy Scott and the club is under attack. Sarah Booth and friends rally round Scott and the club and the hunt is on.There is mayhem, murder, humor, warmth and romance (has Cece finally found unconditional love???) .These books can be read and loved and enjoyed as stand alone books, but I promise you, after you read your first Bones book, you'll go back and read more.
