Wonderful Baseball Retrospective By Harvey Salem I first became aware of this author through a blog that he wrote in conjunction with an old Sporting News blogging site, so I already knew that he was a talented baseball writer. The book purports to be about 15 of the most exciting World Series ever played and on the surface it is just that. Upon further inspection though, it is a much deeper book than that. It is an autobiography of a young boy from Brooklyn and how he became a lifelong fan of baseball while growing up with the Brooklyn Dodgers of the late 1940's and 1950's. This was a memorable era in the history of baseball, punctuated by the inclusion of black athletes into America's Pastime. I highly recommend this as required reading material for anyone interested in the history of baseball.

By Edd McDermott This is without a doubt, the most compelling history of baseball I've ever read. From the beginning to the end, this book is crammed with stories you will never find elsewhere. Whether it's beach reading or snow-flaked comfort of your home, you will find yourself re-reading chapter after chapter as only a master story-teller can depict it. I had the the distinct pleasure of editing this book and was astounded by the unique and creative style he handled the the ubiquities only unearthed by Edd McDermott. A must read for baseball fans, and admirers of succinct and impressive writing.
