Long enough that we have eaten a lot of her cooking.Disclosure #2: I do not like vegetarian cuisine, especially when given a choice between that and something with some meat and fat in it.But you know who does like Laura Meyn's vegetarian food? My teenager does. He loves it.. And I know this because Laura Meyn has been serving her vegetarian dishes to my family for as long as we have known her, and my kid always loves her cooking and invariably asks us "Can you fix that at home?". That is a recommendation that a parent notices! What is great about this particular vegetarian cookbook is that, rather than pushing an entire lifestyle, it gives us some really great choices for feeding our family tasty dishes with known health advantages that even our picky eaters will enjoy. It makes it so much easier for us to create balanced meals and practice healthier eating habits. Our menu at home is so much more well-rounded because we have it as a resource. This cookbook has been proved to get a teenaged boy to eat healthier and smarter. And that is downright miraculous! It is perfect for giving families like ours greater versatility and variety when it comes to feeding our kids, and for giving us all a healthier relationship with our food. Highly recommended, because eating these recipes has taught us that vegetarian dishes can have a place on any family's dinner table. They have definitely earned a place on ours!

A family-friendly vegetarian cookbook By tmh Full disclosure: I know the author, and I have always loved the food she cooked.I was a strict lacto-ovo vegetarian for ten years, and for the past eight years I have included fish in my diet. I like to cook, and for the most part my family and I eat vegetarian at home. I own a LOT of cookbooks, many vegetarian, and this is probably the most approachable family-friendly cookbook I own. I love that it's a vegetarian cookbook that acknowledges that most vegetarians like to eat wholesome and flavorful food--even dessert--and that we like to have a drink with our meals. I've had it for a couple months, and I find myself using it a lot, especially for weeknight meals. My eight year old and five year old kids have been huge fans of everything I've made from it. I think it helps that there aren't many recipes with fake meat, which is never a huge hit with them. Given its very clear and approachable style I think this would be an especially good cookbook for families who want to incorporate more meatless meals in their reportoire. (Meatless Mondays?)

But, more than that, the additional information on wine and spirits make it a complete guide to good eating. Laura and Anthony have put together a guide for healthy eating, and the enjoyment of wine to complement the recipes.
